re: ATT Fiber internet router or use your own router with IP passthrough. - UPDATE

I'm glad I found a forum that actually has results regarding AT&T Fiber.
This last weekend, I moved my modem PACE 5268AC from one room to the other. I plan on using a patch panel/managed switch so that I can get a wired ethernet connection throughout my house. My issue is that i'm getting max 700gbps approx. Would the new BGW210 make that huge a difference? and i'm assuming ya'll use the netgear nighthawk, as a router. I tried the orbi, and I was getting horrible results. Any thoughts?

I have att gigabit fiber run into my Google Wi-Fi system in the house. Works like a dream.

If you are testing hardwired directly into the 5268 you should see between 900-950mbps symmetrically on a 1gbps fiber connection.
As for the bgw210, while I do like them I would not request one just yet. A software update was rolled out in December that bricked quite a few of them. The cause has apparently been narrowed down to the ipv6 tables filling up. To my knowledge units from the field are still being tested and an update will be deployed once the problem is confirmed to have been fixed. Right now all new bgw210s are having ipv6 automatically disabled until the fix is released. No eta on the fix but I would wait until it has been confirmed that it is fixed before swapping out the 5268.

I have ATT 50mbps service now and considering getting 1gbps service. Right now I have Google wifi setup as an AP with the pace wifi turned off.
I'm mostly wireless...actually all wireless. Does the 1gbps service make sense?

You might be fine with the 100mbps. I routinely see speeds between 120-125mbps when testing on either wired or wireless connections. Your biggest determing factor is how many devices are connecting and what are they doing, browsing, streaming video or music, etc.

Understood, reason I'm shying away from 100 is there is a data cap on it. My 50mbps is unlimited data and the 1gbps is unlimited data. I routinely use 750gb/month so the 1tb limit scares me a little.
I stream a fair amount of 4k tv, and have 5 nest cams uploading video constantly...right now I have 15 devices connected to wifi.
Btw I'm renting this house so wiring a bunch of stuff isn't an option.

All I know is my Pace router has been screwing up constantly. It's like I've reached some sort of device limit and it keeps booting things of the 5ghz network. After they have been booted the device can no longer see the 5ghz network until things shuffle around and something else gets booted off.
SAME THING!
So damn annoying but glad others are in my pit of misery. Very frustrating to put my TV on the 5ghz network only to have it fall off of it a day or 2 later.

well my pixel on my bgw210 has been really messing up. constantly getting booted from wifi then back on. every 5 seconds.
I thought it was my pixel when i just did an update but it isnt doing it on other networks. Now im thinking it is the bgw210

Yea, I'm very tempted to get the Google Wifi 3 pucks and just put that ATT bgw210 in passthrough mode. I hate the dropping of the 5ghz for a lot of my devices.
I know that the 2nd and 3rd puck will significantly drop speeds but who the hell really needs 900mbps speed for a WiFi Camera or for a random Amazon Echo Dot? That's the technological equivalent of taking a sledgehammer to a nail.

The Wi-Fi just sucks arse on the Pace router. I was having disconnect issues every few minutes with my laptop. I ended up getting a Unifi AP and all my disconnect issues ceased.

instead of creating a new thread, hoping someone figured out the passthrough mode on the new bgw210?
even though this thread on AT&T Forums is full of crap info..some are still saying they got passthrough to work.
If i turn off dhcp on bgw210 and add mac id of my edgerouter, like it says to, I get nothing on edgerouter. public ip is not passing through and therefore anything connected to edgerouter is not connected to internet.
if I turn on dhcp like some say you have to do on bgw210, it passes an internal ip (192.x.x.x) to edgerouter and of course anything connected to edgerouter then connects to internet fine. however I dont think that these peeps realize that the bgw210 is still routing and has the public ip on it this way.
i turned off wifi and the firewall stuff on bgw210.
so anyone figure out how to really pass the public ip through to another router?

Like i said in this thread, I tried, not for long, and failed. I might try again at some point bu i have miners and servers up i dont want to take offline to troubleshoot this right now.

Is that with ATT fiber and Google wifi as an AP?
Posted on 2/19/18 at 9:59 pm to LordSnow
Thanks, your results make me lean towards trying it. 600+ mbps would be worth the $20/month increase.

I wasnt getting those speeds off the ATT wireless AP.....fyi

I just got the Google Wifi (3 puck pack) and put my ATT Router in Passthrough mode and then disabled my 2 wifi channels from the ATT Router.
Went through the Google Wifi setup on the phone app and am in love. It makes it simple AND allows a "Kids Mode" so I can set times or with the push of a button disable my kids devices for dinner or homework or when it's too late.
The 2nd and 3rd puck lost a decent bit of speed but streaming Sonos music and live video doesn't care if it's down/up @ 600mbps or 150mbps.
My only question is other than IP Passthrough on the ATT Router and disabling the WiFi, is there anything else I needed to do with the ATT Router?
