I like this method as all the DHCP and port forwarding handled by my Asus running Merlin.

this is what i wanted to do. but while i was doing all this research i figured out how to open ports in the Pace interface which is rather tedious comparatively.

But now i have a question for you. Why are people turning off the Wifi on the pace and just using the AP? Is it because they are pluging them into next to each other and do not want interference?

Im planing on putting it on the other side of my house and using both units WiFi for great coverage all over my house.

That's why I turned the WiFi off. In your situation keeping it on makes sense to have coverage everywhere. I was in an apartment so coverage wasn't an issue.

I have the nighthawk router R7000 as well. I'm no network expert. i'll go ahead and get that out of the way. The nighthawk does have better range over the at&t wireless router. The download speeds for wireless for each i'm not exactly sure of. I do know that the nighthawk gets only about 75 to 100 mbps download speed when wireless. I havent tested the AT&T wireless download speeds. I do most of my downloading through a wired connection and that gets about 750mbps on average. The reason i have this service is that it has unlimited data and lets me not worry about exceeding data caps

I cringe every time someone asks me to change their wifi ssid. All of our modems have crappy interfaces. Thankfully they have made changing the wifi information easier so you do not actually have to log in to them and navigate that mess.

You cannot use another modem besides the one we provide to you. If you are getting fiber and do not need a coax output hopefully you will get the newer BGW210 as opposed to the 5268ac. The 5268ac is good but I feel like the BGW210's I have installed have produced better results when compared to 5268's on identical service profiles.

You can set up pass through mode as others have said to use your own wireless router if you need better coverage.

Has anyone been able to configure their own router behind the AT&T supplied Pace modem to get full 1g? Best I’ve done is about 450m hardwired to the R7000 & I think I’ve tried every type of config.

well the guys used my coax cable in that room to fish the fiber down the wall. So i had to run another coax when i needed coax in that room. So i have fiber to that wall and some cream colored box, then Cat cable to the Pace router. Can i request an upgrade to the BGW210?

Did you just flat out ask for it? I have the Pace and had to quit using my R7000 because it wasn't giving me full speeds.

i use the nighthawk router for wireless connections

The question becomes what are you getting for download/upload speeds for:
5ghz?
2.4ghz?

I get about 900mbps up/down hardwired but get only about 350down and 450up on 5ghz channel. Probably 65-75down and 75up on 2.4ghz.

that was an old post in tis thread. if he is still on the PACE he isnt getting anymore. I forgot to link the thread in the update in the OP but there is evidence of near 1000 down via wifi (under strict circumstances) with the BGW210.

BottleGnome or CarRamrod

Hey, I just went online to ATT and they are gonna send me the BGW210 and replace my current NVG599. However, will I even notice a difference on either wired or WiFi connections? Distance better, etc?
Or was that a waste of everyone's time?

Am I going to be much better off just buying my own and using the ATT router as a passthrough?

i think it depends on some factors. are you mostly hardwired or wifi?

I was seeing some bad wifi issues with my BGW210 this weekend, something i didnt have with the same device in the same location as my NVG599.

But both didnt have near the coverage as my nighthawk. How i have read about the passthrough reaching full speeds im going to bring my night hawk back out and use it.

Mainly WiFi. Maybe 1800sqft but it’s a shotgun style house in New Orleans so my very front rooms start to lose service at the very far end of the wall.
