Most cell phone companies back in the day used to have pretty good upgrade programs that would allow you to get a new phone, basically free, after a couple years. AT&T stopped doing that several years back.

I stumbled upon this deal when trying to get something else fixed with my plan.

I'm pretty stoked as I've been buying my phones outright on ebay for about 7 years now.

Check the deal here: LINK

Samsung had some great deals last month. We had my wife's S9 laying around for about 6 months after I bought her a S20. Samsung sold me a S21+ for $750 after giving me $350 for the S9, and I also got $200 in credit for samsung.com. I did the same with my wife's phone, traded in her S20 for a S21 for $150, and will get $150 in credit.
I then sold the S9+ this weekend on facebook for $300, so my net for both phone upgrades came to $250, with no installment.

Maybe I was eligible because I upgrade to Unlimited Elite service, which was cheaper than what I had.

Either way, I confirmed with the customer service rep via web chat that my bill won't go up and no strings yada yada yada. Saved the convo in case they try to screw me.

Me and my wife did the same deal when the 12 first came out. Traded in our 8’s and got the 12’s for free. We were switching from Sprint so new customers but I think the deal was good for anyone as long as you have one of their unlimited plans. Was able to get two lines of their best plan for $65/per.

Verizon has similar deals, but to get the best deal you need to add a line. I was able to trade my Pixel 3 to get $450 off the iPhone 12 Pro

My iPhone XS has a small touch screen dead zone on it, can you still trade-in? I’m unaware of the exact details of this offer

Interested in this as well. I have a cracked screen. Wondering if I should do an insurance claim first and then turn in the insurance phone as the trade in since it would be defect free. Would rather save the deductible if it doesn't matter.

The samsung offer required that the phone screen not be cracked, be factory reset, and power on to the start screen. Would assume the ATT deal would be similar. I think they might take a cracked screen with a reduced credit, but i would check with them.

My wife’s phone was cracked. It would turn on but it hardly worked when on. ATT gave us $700 for trade in. I was shocked.

That's an interesting way to put it. You were never getting a new phone "basically free." You were paying for it over 2 years (built into the line cost, not itemized), and then at the end of the 2 years you continued paying for a new phone whether you took the next "free upgrade" or not. If you did agree to take the "free phone" they made you pay for whether you took it or not, you then got locked into the scheme for 2 more years. If you didn't take the phone so you could avoid locking yourself in for 2 more years, you were still paying for a new phone, since it was built into the line cost and not separately itemized.

I always buy unlocked phones from N1Wireless on the www.

The latest one I got was a Samsung Android and it says Verizon when I turn it on, but it works with pay as you go sim card.

I figured out a contract with AT&T was costing about $700 more over the 2 year period. I am happy with $45 unlimited talk, text and data/month.
