re: AT&T & Verizon Facing FCC Scrutiny After Exempting Their Own Apps From Data Cap

Look at it like this if it makes sense to you. AT&T is to the Internet as DFW Airport is to airline traffic. It's a conduit to move air traffic from one place to another, just as AT&T is a conduit to move data traffic from one place to another.
AT&T giving favorable treatment to DirecTV Now is the same as if DFW Airport purchased Delta Airlines, then didn't charge Delta for gate and landing fees, while requiring other airlines to pay the fees and essentially didn't charge fliers to fly on Delta. It would be an unfair business practice because the other airlines require the landing strip and gates of DFW Airport in order to compete for the business of fliers, and has to charge their customers for the flight.
PS Vue and Sling require the services of AT&T in order to reach their customers, but the favorable treatment of DirecTV Now by AT&T creates a significant burden on those two busineses because they now are paying fees that DTVN isn't.

Yep. I swear to god if this happens I'm going to lose my shite. Net Neutrality is so dumb.
So everyone else should get fricked over b/c they don't use the same ISP you use.

He comes off as an AT&T shill. How anyone can be against net neutrality boggles my mind. Data caps are awful for the internet.

The Poliboard is basically against it

The argument that Net Neutrality will end data caps in inherently false.
There will always be data caps on cellular data (unless you are willing to sacrifice network quality) if we continue with the tech that we have now. That is one thing that Net Neutrality will do is hinder innovation.
The other thing from Net Neutrality....some guy above mentioned pirate bay. So you guys are all for letting the Feds control net neutrality 100% I assume because that is the model that we have now. If there is one thing that government does well it is criminalize shite and monitor people. Bye bye pirate bay....and hello NSA monitoring my internet traffic to an extent that we haven't had before. I mean look at what government control and regulation has done to electrical companies. I could get SLEMCO to the tune of at least 1000 a year cheaper than CLECO, but due to some stupid law that the electric companies and the government put in place I can't use SLEMCO I have to use CLECO even though SLEMCO provides service to other folks on the same lines that run directly in front of my house and that CLECO comes to me on. This is where the internet could go under government control.
Now from a zero rating standpoint. I think that SlingTV and PS Vue need to find a way to sweeten the pot. I mean from my viewpoint, granted it is limited use, I think that DirecTV is a better service by far than SlingTV which I used for 6 months. As far as PS Vue goes they have a problem with Cox in Lafayette that it took them 6+ months to even admit (even though they said service was available in Lafayette). Then about 2 months ago they finally said they had a problem and haven't really tried to fix it. In fact a lot of folks now get the answer from them that PS Vue isn't available in Lafayette if you have Cox. PS Vue certainly needs to fix their IP geo-location approval process.....people from all over the country complain about it.
I think the first thing that both could do tomorrow would be to go to multiple or even unlimited streams. DirecTV Now has a limit of 2. Would that force ATT to answer sure most likely. That type of behavior drives competition....I don't think that zero rating is that much different. However, I do see the point that zero rating could drive little boys out of the game....that happens in other businesses as well though.

Just get rid of ridiculous data caps and the problem fixes itself.

Wireline data caps are absurd.
Wireless spectrum is finite so I get those caps.

This I agree with although I think OTT services are at least driving these up.....last month Cox upped the cap on all bandwidth levels to 1TB/month. That is still ludicrous based on the amount of data Cox uses versus the amount it provides to it's customers.
