I had an Apple Watch, I think series 2 that has long since crapped out. Been using a regular watch for a while but thinking of going back to an Apple Watch. What’s the oldest series I should consider? I see series 4-6 on Amazon for pretty cheap

Don't go older than a 4. Security updates and patches are still being deployed to a 4.

That all depends on your budget, man. I bought an 8 ultra back in October and I love it. Battery will last three days or more

I bought the Ultra Friday and love it so far. I'm big into adventure sports and looking to use it as a dive watch and it looks perfect for the job. The ability to replace my iphone for calls and streaming music in certain situations is lagniappe and it will now be my daily wear watch. It's a beautiful watch.

For those getting an Apple Watch a head's up on something I learned the hard way. If you don't get the Apple Care and break the glass it will cost $350 and up to replace the glass, which is more than it cost me to purchase my Apple Watch SE. I didn't have it fastened securely on my wrist (my fault) and dropped it on pavement facedown and now it's useless.
