Apple iPhone upgrade program....

So I currently have a 6, under ATT Next program. Can I move over to the Apple upgrade program? It seems like this exclusively goes thru Apple, as opposed to the carrier?
How would it play out? I'd get a new phone, then can sell this one and pay off the balance of my next?
TIA - apple support chat wasn't available due to high volume so I figured this forum was next best thing.

AT&T Next is just an installment contract the way I understand it. Are you in a wireless contract at the moment? My guess is that you would have to pay out the remainder of the Next installments and then start up the Apple upgrade program fresh and new....but I could be mistaken.

Under the Next program you have to make X installments to pay for your phone (12, 24, or 36). So if you have paid only 12 of 24 then you still have 12 more payments to make.
If you get the new iPhone using the apple upgrade program then you get a new phone and still have your old one.
You'll have to pay the new monthly fee with Apple, AND continue to pay the remaining monthly fee with the Next program.
I do believe that the Next program has a buyout option, but you'll have to check with ATT to find out what the remaining balance is for you.
You won't be able to sell your old phone until you've completed your contract with ATT Next.

Not to hijack this thread, but what is the better program if you are with AT&T? The Apple iPhone Program is what I was leaning toward.

I'm leaning towards the Apple program myself, if only because they give you and unlocked phone and it wouldn't tie me to ATT anymore. It is also set up so that you would be able to get a new phone every year (basically each new phone that comes out) and that's not always the case with ATT's Next.
The Apple program also includes their service package... if that's worth anything to you. I think the deductible is like $100 and there's a laundry list of stuff it doesn't cover. Maybe if you (the spouse, the kids) are prone to accidents then it could be useful. But this isn't an option, it is "included" with your monthly fee.

Great question. I too have both a 6 and 6 plus and trying to see whats the best way to go...payment plan whether AT&T, Apple or buy outright ($969 ). The 2 year contract worked in the past but everytime I mention my unlimited data..."you don't need that" from AT&T.

Don't get the iPhone upgrade program if you actually want to upgrade your phone on release day. I am going through this pain right now. I was awake at 3am to preorder and could not get the phone in the color or size I wanted.
You have to trade in phones in store, so you can only purchase through store stock. The blacks were all gone before 3:05 when most people could get into the store. This basically leaves me paying more payments until I can get a black in store. Instead of making 12 payments, I could make 13 or 14. This is basically more payments that I give them for free since there is no discount for upgrading at 13 or 14.
Lesson here is buy outright and sell on eBay every year. Probably save money this route.

I'm almost certain that Apple will have that fixed by next release. They're aware they fricked up. They need to work on a mail in system.. I don't want to drive to an Apple Store just to pick up a phone.
