Apple iPhone Trade in Question

I have a iphone x with issues with the screen. No cracks, but a bunch of lines/etc. Is it worth replacing with a cheap aftermarket screen to get the advertised $400 or will they reject it bc of the aftermarket screen?

Going through Apple? Take it to an Apple store with the screen messed up and see what they will give for it. I wouldn't change the screen til you see what they say.

Also, is the display having multitouch issues? If so it may be qualified under a repair program for a free display. Take it to the Genius Bar and see what they say.

I've actually changed the screen once before on it myself. Lasted a good 6 months before I dropped it again recently and it killed part of the OLED screen.
Based on the trade-in questions on the apple website, damage to the screen will knock my trade in value from $400 to only $100.
I went ahead and ordered a cheap LCD replacement on ebay ($45). Figure I'll swap it out before sending it in. If Apple denies the trade in (or offers me only $100), it'll probably be worth it to reject their offer and keep the phone as a backup.
Besides the faulty OLED screen, the phone itself is in great condition (always kept in a case).

Don't do what? Trade it in? Fix the screen?

I looked at an iphone today and it's $550 for a certified pre-owned or whatever they were calling it.
Is there a better way to buy a new phone? The 8+'s were $350. Worth $200 for the X?

I personally have had bad luck with apple’s refurbished phones. Wife had a screen issue under the 1 yr warranty, that they replaced with a refurbished phone. I had an issue with that one shortly after, but replacement phones have shorter warranty periods (can’t remember how long).
I think it boils down to how you use your phone if it’s worth dropping $1k for a new/top of the line phone. I use mine all the time and as a primary camera for my family. I feel the price is worth it.
