First new Macbook Pro in more than 4 years. Any predictions? Touch screens? Zero ports? Dongles out the wazoo?

I'll be sad to retire my 2011 Macbook Air, but the time has come.

Pssst. Event is Thursday 10/27.

And it's the first MacBook Pro redesign in 4 years. Not then first new one in 4 years. They were last updated spring 2015. OLED function row, USB c, bigger trackpad, thinner body.

I'm interested to see them and what the price point is. I'm definitely in the market for a new computer and love my 2008 macbook.

I'm interested to see the new models. My 2011 Macbook Air is still going strong. How much longer can I reasonably expect it to last? I'd like to hold on 1-2 more years, but I'm often not in a place where I can just drive to the Apple store if it craps out.

It won't crap out unless the hard drive goes. My 2008 macbook still runs FWIW and I'm typing on a late 2010 model right now.

I'm on a late 2009 model. On one hand, I want to get a new one because 7 years on a laptop seems like borrowed time. On the other hand, I have not had a single issue (other than battery replacements) the entire time I've had this machine and it handles everything I do with ease.

Not trying to spend 2k+ on a replacement that runs about the same as my current machine. I put an SSD in and upgraded to 8 gigs of RAM so not sure how drastic the improvements will be for me.

I don't know much about the air models because I have never owned one, but doing this will get you a significant performance upgrade at a fraction of the cost.

Here is the first look at the new 13" MacBook Pro, found buried in macOS Sierra system files:

My 2011 has the SSD Hard Drive - that has a huge impact on reliability & longevity. My last two Apple laptops had hard drive failures at about 3 years old. I recently put a new battery in mine and it has given it a new lease on life - I bought an Anker one from Amazon and it gets ~5 hours on a charge. I'm sure I could last another year or two just fine, but I'm a sucker for an all-new MB Pro, plus the tax write off...

Yeah that's my bad. What I get for getting the news on some weird British tech site.

Mine has the SSD too. Sounds like I'm getting a new battery and waiting one or two more refreshes. But I'll be watching tomorrow; that rumored Macbook Pro looks nice.

I plan to watch on my lunch break but man do they drag these things out. I turned off the iphone event before they announced anything significant.

The touch bar and Touch Id while not mind blowing seem pretty useful.

Touch Bar is pretty neat, except for the predictive typing right above a full keyboard. I like how light the Pro is. The TV app didn't do anything for me.

I'm gonna go broke buying dongles for this thing.

Charging through that (probably super expensive) LG monitor is really cool though.

Maybe it's just how I use laptops but I still want a SurfaceBook over a MacBook/Pro. I've even had a MacBook Pro before and I like it but not worth the price compared to the functionality.
