The whole point of duckduckgo was to avoid google/apple/big tech censorship.

about the idea of forcing rival Google to give users search alternatives both on Android and in Chrome."

Yeh, if it was anybody but Apple, I would be concerned. For a tech company, Apple has good Privacy Policy. I've read it. Google does not = Apple. Google is an Internet predator.
... and there is always Startpage.com

The FBI has tried to get Apple to unlock phones of suspected mass shooters and Apple refused so I give them credit for that. If that also means the FBI can't crack Apple's encryption then that's nice too.

I'm pretty sure they stopped harassing them because they found another way around it. Apple wouldn't comply because the way it was engineered doesn't give them the ability to. FBI wanted them to basically issue an officially signed update that had back doors baked in to bypass that.

I finally find a weather app I like (Dark Sky) and Apple buys it. I find a search engine I like (DuckDuckGo) and (*speculation says) Apple buys it.
I have Apple computers and peripherals for my home computing needs, so have nothing against them per se, but like to keep my resources quality but independent so not too much is owned by one organization, and it’s becoming near impossible.
We are witnessing the “monopolization” of our data in the same way they “monopolized” our media. Oligopoly more appropriately, but the point remains.

*potentially?
Didn’t read the article about it apparently being speculation. I read the thread title...once again, the point remains.

These phones eventually got unlocked in most cases.

I'd be a little surprised if that is still the case but it could be.

I agree with you for the most part. I'm glad I did not buy a Ring Doorbell or a Nest Thermostat. Google is far worse than Apple ... it is not even close. I am new to these board, so I won't get political here ... but I have posted about this (topic + more) on the Political board and MOST do not get it. Hopefully the current actions that are going on, will be successful and force BIG TECH to succeed through development, not acquisition.

I have an iPhone, and iPad that I've had for about 7 years. That is all I've ever owned. Not realy a fan of many technology companies other than those who try to prevent data theft ... Firefox, DuckDuckGo, Startpage, DisConnectMe, select VPNs... sorry to disappoint.

In Alabama, there are two , maybe more, DuckDuckGo interstate bulletin board ads. Has anybody seen them in other states?
