Looking to upgrade the multimedia setup in our 2019 4Runner to use/access Apple CarPlay.
Any direction from folks who have upgraded in the past is appreciated

Carplay install
Here’s a video of an install. It looks pretty simple to access the screen, so that’s good. I put one into my wife’s Lexus, and I’ve installed one into my q50. Total game changer.

$499 to take my factory POS OEM fricken crappy 2017 Tundra stereo to where is should have been when I bought it. shite still pisses me off, frick Toyota and their lack of tech.

I replaced my 2012 Toyota Tundra's stock NAV radio with a Kenwood Excelon DMX906S from Crutchfield. Their dash kit and ReadyHarness wiring harness made the job easier (although I did have to troubleshoot to get the rear cam working requiring another part which they shipped free-of-charge). So, it took me a few days to get it completely installed but even the wife thinks the fit and finish is great. Honestly, I did it so I would keep the truck longer.

I’ve been looking for something for a 2018 Nissan Armada but no luck so far.

I was thinking about installing one of the cheaper screens from a Chinese company I've seen on amazon. One reason being I'd really like a physical volume knob.
Anyone have any experience installing something like this? How does the wiring harness work?
It's been about 15 years since I've installed an aftermarket stereo, so I was just curious.

Unless you can’t live without it I wouldnt bother. Ive tried to like CarPlay but just can’t get into it. My biggest beef is that there is no privacy mode when you are talking on the phone. Also third party apps like Spotify and especially Amazon music often have playback issues. The navigation is probably the one thing I do like about it. I have a Ford and just use the sync system way more than CarPlay.

I love CarPlay ans put an aftermarket radio in my old Ford. My next vehicle will have CarPlay as a requirement

Same. I use Apple music, and it works seamlessly with CarPlay.

That should be a vehicle speed sensitive volume setting more than a carplay setting.

100% correct. it was called driver equalizer and I turned it off. I couldn't stand having the volume shift and it was driving me crazy. thank you!
