buy an unlocked GSM phone of your choice and pop in the sim card. if you want a smallish screen, get a N5 or N5X

wife was using a galaxy device up until xmas. switched her to a N5 and she loves it. no shitty samsung apps. no shitty att apps. just pure android. gigantic difference in speed and responsiveness even though the N5 is a generation old already.

Yeah I hooked you up with the link for the Nexus 5x a while back. You order it direct from Google then pop in your AT&T sim and it works fine. You get updates straight from Google.

If everything lasted forever there would be no need to buy new products and companies wouldn't make any money.

ATT only has 2 android manufacturers? HTC, LG, & Samsung. Those are all solid for the most part. Maybe follow jcoles advice and get a Nexus. The SE is a very solid iPhone for the price. 6 month old specs and starts as the cheapest iPhone you can get.

Samsung is basura.

LG looks great. I may give them a chance. Reviews have been solid, but we will see.

HTC? They are now in hail mary mode. If the 10 fails, they are fricked.

My 6 year old Blu Ray player still gets updates to keep up with new security schemes on current discs.

I know.... "Who uses discs anymore?"

Get off my lawn!

Except for Samsung, whose phones are only designed to last long enough to get you home.

when was the last software update or firmware upgrade?

That's the problem with phones. They have limited "disk" space that limits future updates. If a phone is produced at a time where the operating system uses 200MB, they may allocate 250MB to the OS partition, and that can never be changed. As soon as an update requires 251MB, the phone will never be updated by the manufacturer. Eventually, apps won't work with the outdated OS. With a computer, if it has 300GB hard drive, then the chances of an OS not fitting on the computer are very slim. The recent trend of Windows is to be leaner and do more with less hardware specs.

At the pace of technology, you probably will.

It may be different for iOS, but android phones have multiple partitions, and the size of those partitions can't be changed. If the new update is larger than the size allocated to the boot partition, then the update can't be loaded.

Only person I've seen take so long to make a decision on a phone.

Set up a gofundme, I'll personally donate a Jackson

The money isn't the issue. I just felt completely screwed when I got the S5. Everyone was like OMG THIS IS THE GREATEST PHONE IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND and it was/is the most worthless piece of shite I have ever owned.

I think three years is about as long as I could take the same phone. Advancements happen too quickly now. I can't imagine having an iPhone 5 right now. I have a 6 and I'm already itching for the 7.

Nobody is forcing you to upgrade. I know a guy that still rocks an iPhone 3GS.

Other manufacturers are more than welcome to support a phone for 10 years if they want to.

Meanwhile technology continues to advance every year.
