been wanting to pull the trigger on the mavic mini for awhile. Have watched tons of reviews on YT and seems pretty sweet.
I was going to order a few months ago but they took forever for the discount code and heard shipping was backed up. At the point where ill just go to best buy instead of ordering through the company.

I have a Phantom 4 Pro and have flown a Mavik 2 Pro once. Both are solid units wrt features and they aren't quirky to fly.
I was looking at the mini also and because of the size would like to get one for travel shots.

I have a mavic air 2 and a mavic mini. The mini is a great starter drone. You will, however, quickly yearn for something a little more powerful.
Any specific questions?

This is the main reason why id buy it, plus it seems like a good entry price point for what it does.

Has there been any updates for the software? I've seen people mention they may, but I don't know how long ago that was.
I have seen the wind tests and I think that is the big disadvantage, but im buying it just to learn and have for family stuff.

I have a Spark and really enjoy it. However, wish I would have spent more for a Mavic.

The only time the wind has been a serious concern for me has been when I took it to the beach. Otherwise, if you stay under 400’ like you are supposed to, it really isn’t that bad. I will say that I have never been to the mountains with the mini. I could see problems coming up there.
If you can, I would absolutely save a little more and just get the air 2. I promise it is worth it. It is arguably the best drone out there in the “less than $2000” range. It has incredible range and the camera is legit.
If you are sold on the mini, it is a very good drone for the money. The auto return to home has bailed me out a couple of times when I lost signal a mile away and the camera is solid. You don’t get a lot of the gimmick quick shots with it but the quality is good.

I live in rural flat lands, so no mountains, but windy here. Doesn't mean I won't be traveling to places of different terrain. I plan on downloading a wind app and monitoring conditions from my weather app.

I appreciate the recommendations and will look into the air 2 in the future. I did purchase the mini a bit ago.

I do. What do you want to do with it? It all depends on what you want to do with it.
I think some underrated aspects of drones is range. Take whatever the advertised range is for the drone and cut it in half. You can buy range extenders but if I could buy a new drone range would be at the top of my list.
Do you want 4k video? Is that important to you?
Weight is another thing. Mavic Mini is cheap, but any wind and it will get knocked around. Too strong of winds and you could never see it again.
I think the Mavic Air 2 is the best all around drone. Unless you are a professional or want professional quality photos there is no need for the Pro line, and the Mavic Air 2 fixed the Air's main issue by adding Occusync. The Mini is cheaper but the Air 2 does so much more and is a better overall value

This feature has saved my drone a few times but it has also screwed me over before. I was a dumbass and took off my drone from a small boat. The thing is the drift on the boat was pretty fast that day so I could not get the boat to stay still long enough to where I could land it.
Auto RTH kicks in due to low battery and goes back to the location where I took it off from which was in the middle of the water. My only hope was to try and land it on the beach. I got it to the beach but it was still about 115 feet up when it ran out of battery and it crashed into the sand. Somehow, it did not break anything at all. I was stunned.

Right now I just want to get used to it. I live next to cornfields and plan on doing that for my first flight. I also have a golf course nearby that would be cool to try and find my Grandpa

Besides that I plan on using it taking pictures and videos on walks. I have a large lake and state parks near me that would be cool to adventure.

The Mini is 4k, correct? I did purchase the fly more combo so I have 3 batteries. I also got a 32 GB microSD for it. Seemed like all I needed at first, I may upgrade to a larger microSD.

Yes, I have seen a lot of user videos on YT and I do have some strong winds where I live, just because it is a neighborhood in the middle of nowhere.

Sounds good. I only purchased the mini because it seemed like the top drone for the price point and I appreciate the 249g keeping me from registering, etc. I could learn on this and sell it for some cash if I wanted to upgrade, but right now I am more just wanting to get into the hobby use of it. I dont think that I would need one for professional use, but appreciate the information.

I have the Phantom 3 professional 4k. Love it. it has great range and camera is legit. It is also very durable and I live close to the ocean out here and the ocean breeze is no problem when flying. BTw the return to home button has saved my arse many times. Oh fuk I lost it No problem return home button and the butt unpuckers.

This is what I did, I originally bought a Spark because I wanted to get used to it, but its easy. You have to be pretty dumb to crash it or lose it. With that being said, not saying it can't happen - I've crashed mine twice, but it was crazy circumstances. Those circumstances will happen no matter how good you are. My Spark lasted about 2 weeks before I sold it and just got a Mavic Pro. You'll outgrow it fast, it doesn't take long at all to get used to flying it.

Mini maxes out at 2160 resolution. 32 GB should be fine but I like to go with 64 GB.

RTH is the main reason I think range is important. Because drones like Spark, Mavic Air 1 go out of range pretty fast and you are stuck with a drone still flying but no video feed at all to see where it is or control it.

One of the videos I just watched gave a good tip of getting used to the controls. Learn basic functions, try to incorporate both, then go from there.
I did download the App already, even though the batteries and controller are charging. Saw that it had a forum on there and other features. I will connect the drone tomorrow, don't want to risk crashing into anything inside the house

A great tip was to have the front/camera always infront because of default control settings. Im pretty pumped that I finally got it and excited for tomorrow. It is supposed to rain at some point though, so I will have to figure that out.

Definitely nice when you get comfortable flying it. I use the iPad mini on the controller to my drone. You lose site of the drone pretty quickly when it goes into the sky so you must learn early how to understand reading the screen from your home location on the screen. I love flying freestyle when I can actually see the drone. Just learning to move in all directions and spinning it to get a full 360 degree takes some practicing. Btw you can take out insurance on drones its like 20 dollars a month and will replace it if you lose it or it gets destroyed in a free fall.

Is that through DJI or something else? Also, what do you guys recommend for film/picture editing?

There are some photo apps or video apps for editing on my iPad i use. I dont have my iPad at work right now so I can't tell you which one I use. Just go to the app store and look around. My good friend that lives up in Atlanta insured his through his home insurance company which cost him like 100.00 a year to cover all his electronics including his drone. He travels the world with his drones and he lost one to a waterfall somewhere in Belize about a year ago. He filed his claim and they cut him a check to pick up another one.

It's called DJI Care
I use Adobe Premiere Pro to edit my videos but it cost $23 a month. There are some free video editors you can use like Davinci Resolve. The thing with editing 4k video is you need a decent PC to be able to smoothly edit it.
Pictures I use Adobe Lightroom. Used to be free but I don't think it is anymore

I've been researching a ton myself and have pretty much decided on the Air2. It seems to have a great camera and obstacle avoidance along with pretty much everything I would want. Is there that big a difference between the bigger Mavic 2 and the Air 2 other than size and a little faster?
Also, I have zero Apple devices. I've heard running Android with DJI isn't the same experience as it is with IOS. The Note 10 isn't even supported with the mini, which is why I started looking at the Air 2. Should I just avoid DJI because I'm anti-Apple? (I'm not anti apple, it's just that I don't feel like learning all over again)
