Anyone Have Experience in Buying a Refurbished Mac?

I need a new laptop, and I think I'm going to stick with the Apple route.
I really only intend to use this one for work (Word, Excel, Spreadsheets, etc.) I have another Mac that I'll continue to let my wife use for pictures and such...so, I don't plan on bogging this one down with too much "stuff."
Don't want to spend the full Grand on a new one, if a refurbished MacBook Air will do. Anyone ever run into any issues with a Refurbished Apple product bought through Apple?
I've seen comments of people saying "wait a few months for the new processors..." But I really need to act now on a new Laptop. But is there major difference between 4 & 8 GB onboard memory? And 128GB and 256GB Flash Storage for what I'd be using it for?
Sorry for all the questions...Not very tech savvy.

If you're only using it for work applications, you won't see a difference in performance between 4GB and 8GB unless you're one of those people that never close applications out when they're done.
As far as storage is concerned, you can fit a lot on either capacity. Up to you on that one.

My daughter bought a refurbed Air about 6 months ago; she got the Applecare with it. Has had zero problems with it and save a bunch of money to boot.

I bought a refurb 12 inch MacBook a few months ago immediately after the 2016 version launched.
I used the deep discount from the refurb and new model to up the memory and processor. It was a great transaction, and what little issue I've had (nothing major) is the product of the MacBook line, not the refurb nature of the laptop.
I actually intended to buy an Air, but once I used the 12 inch I couldn't live with the Air screen.

I bought with one with no regrets. Once you determine what you want, check out this site to send you a notification when your preferred model goes on sale.
I was in similar shoes as yours, ended up with a MacBook Pro Retina display, 256GB 8GB RAM. I wouldn't suggest getting anything smaller than that.

I've never had any problems with refurb devices from Apple.
I'd lean towards the 8gb ram, mostly because the computer will generally last longer use wise and is more adaptable to any potential future use case (can't add more later).
Storage is less important, because worst case you can get usb thumb drives that hold 128gb for fairly cheap, and 13 inch air has sd card slot for more additional storage options if you need more space for stuff later.

I've bought several refurb from apple. There is really no difference to me. Same warranty. AppleCare. Etc. just better prices. I've had some for years, some for as little as a year. Only thing I've ever had happen is my HDD went out on a 2011 refurb 27" iMac last week. Replaced it, went ahead and added a SSD in the optical slot and the thing is faster than it ever was. 32gb ram helps.

Yes. Get 8 GB as its the next standard that software will jump to in a few years. Also, if you leave a lot of tabs open in your browser you will quickly eat through RAM.

Yes, you can buy a refurb because Apple does not refresh it specs on desktops and laptops for about three years. So the three your old refurb is the same specs as a brand new one. Suckers.
