It’s a nice deal if you will settle for an inferior picture at 85 inches in the Sony 900 series (90CH series at Costco). The Sony 900 series in 65 inches for under $1000 is a much, much better deal. Resolution at 65 is not as important as at 85 inches.
I was ready to buy the 900 series in 85 inch when it was $2400 but two “honest” salesmen (in my estimation) told me to wait till next year when both Sony and Samsung will drastically reduce the cost of 85 inch in 8K. Because, they said, the upscaling capabilities of 8K engines are notably superior at larger sizes.
Plus the introduction next year of 92-inch (93?) displays will drive the price of 85s down, like the 85s are doing to 75s and 65s.
I am so ready to jump on a 900 Series in 65 for my master BR but am also fighting off the urge for an 85 8K till next year.
By the way, Costco also has a great deal on a lower series 8K in 85 for $4500!! That’s pretty darn good, too.
It also depends if you value cost vs. picture quality. Or don’t care because you can’t tell the difference and that it’s not your main TV.
All this blather aside, I am sure will enjoy your new Sony.

I'm coming from a 10 yr old 55" Samsung LED that is edge lit. It will be a huge upgrade. This is also the biggest I can fit in my living room.
