Have to buy another computer so it’s dialing back the budget I set for a tv. Due to limitations I’m going with a 55”. We have a 46” in there now, so it’s going to be an upgrade regardless...

These are the 2 I’m looking at: Sony X900E or the LG B7A/C7. I know they are different sets in that they are OLED and LED. You can get the 900E for 1k right now and the B7/C7 for basically $1500. That being said I could also get the new version of the Sony in the 900f for $1500.

Honestly I’d rather get the Sony A1E, but the computer is killing that deal. I’m just trying to decide if it’s worth paying an extra $500 to get the OLED. I’d describe the living area as moderately bright during the day, maybe a little bit more than moderate.... it’s about 12-14ft from the wall to the couch right off hand. I assume that only matters in tv size, but again that’s set at 55”.

Anyways... anyone with experience with these or have pros/cons?

I don't know anything about either of these TVs.
And I'm not really going to look. It probably doesn't matter all that much in the modern world, anyway.

With that said.... my recent, previous research indicated that Samsung and LG make better hardware.
I'd steer away from Sony (and that's from a previously devoted Sony customer.)
And usually, with the mid-tier TVs.... you are getting what you pay for. The increase in price in a competitive market is primarily due to better features, technology, or quality.

I get that... that’s obvious.

And if the system with the Sony is so terrible then why do all do the independent sites have the Sony and LG rated as the better TVs over the Samsung?

I mean supposedly the TCL has one of the best OS with their ROKU and a great picture. I’m just not all that comfortable with something that undercuts everyone else so much. With them I kind of understand due to they make literally the whole tv and do not outsource parts so it’s cheaper....
It seems to be to get the better Samsung sets you are paying prime dollar and you get better and more for your money with the OLEDs. Probably even save money.

Yeh... I’ve looked at all the sites. Rtings, avs, CNET etc... that’s kind of how I came to where I am on the 2 tvs. It’s not like you can go and look at the picture all that well in the box stores.

I agree with this.... however I can get the LG OLED for the same cost. Or just get the 900e and save some coin

Are the OLEDs that bad in a room with windows?

Yes

I prefer a quality LCD over OLED.

Yeh...

That’s my biggest hold off on the OLED.... room is kind of bright most of the afternoon.

Unless sunlight is hitting the Oled screen directly from the front then it should be fine. If it's that big of a concern then the Sony is great to. These really are some of the best bang for the buck Tv's, I wouldn't consider a Samsung ever again. The Oled just has some very deep rich blacks, movies really pop and still moderately bright at the same time. Id go LG B7(it's the exact same tv as C7)

The tv is going up above the fireplace... I’d assume about 6’ish up the wall. At no time will sunlight hit the tv directly. Sun doesn’t get in here until 1 or so due to trees then goes away about 5:30-6ish as far as sunlight is concerned. I’m most concerned about sports (football, baseball and soccer) and movies. I’m going to upgrade my Apple TV box to the 4K unit as well.

I ended up with the 65" Sony 900e. I have a wall of windows that are opposite the TV so it helps.

Planet Earth 2 looked nuts, but I'm coming from a 7 year old 42 inch so anything would have looked great.

Only issue I've had is the Android operating system must crash when the TV is "off", requiring me to unplug it and plug it back in to start up, but that's becoming further and further apart between incidents. Went from pretty common (days/weeks) to maybe once a month? I can't recall the last time.

Best thing you could do is go talk to the guys at Best Buy (Magnolia depart).
By your description of the setup it doesn't sound like sunlight would be a problem. Although now that im thinking about ours, close interior lights could potentially cause a glare. We don't really use the overhead lights anymore and just turn on a couple of lamps and it doesn't glare but I'm sure if your interiors are concaved into the ceiling it shouldn't be a problem. Depends on what's playing on screen as well you should never have a problem with sports.

I’m doing all this research and this tv in the living room has to be damn near 10 and is a 46” LG. I’ll be in the same boat...

There are 2 windows directly across from the tv, well at the corners of the living area. Prolly 3ft x 6ft then one 7’x7’ to the right of it, but that one faces the front yard and doesn’t get too much light b/c of the oak trees in the front.

Yeh... I’ve read on reviews that the operating system on the Sony’s can be a tad choppy. But, they have the best reviews for picture over any of the other tvs. TCL and Vizio get good reviews as well, but you give up some things going that way.

98% of viewing capabilities wouldn’t allow you to see the difference from an expensive 55”or a cheap 70” only difference is speakers will suck and people will be wowed by your big $500 tv instead of small $1200 tv

No they are not. I have a wall of windows behind my seating area with two large double windows to my right and a door with half frosted glass also to my right, plus another door with half frosted glass in front of the seating area. I have zero trouble watching anything during the day on my Lg OLED 65 C7. This thing is bright.

I don’t think you can go wrong with either tv you choose, but I can say that this OLED is the best tv I’ve ever had and still much brighter than my last Samsung LED which is still a nice tv, but now whenever I look at it all I see is clouding and light bleed which OLEDs do not have.

Uh, no.

You're a funny guy!

As for the OLED vs. LCD argument. Seriously, every LCD right now has a problem with DSE (dirty screen effect) that shows up in light scenes and makes the screen look like it's coated in dirt from being washed with dirty water. About 99.99% of OLED images will never show any DSE.

Additionally, off-axis viewing of OLED is awesome, and LCD sucks (in comparison).

They are an option to buy from.... but I’m not going there asking for advice on what to buy. That’s why I come here

Actually, would go to a local joint and see what they have to say first. Like, Marco’s buddy at Alterman over in Metry. Prolly will make a run by there the next time I get into NOLA in a couple weeks. Plus, I want real world advice. Someone who does it for a living, not a job. Those dudes give bunk advice anyways. I ran buy there to see if they had a particular cable for my system and that dude started blowing so much smoke up my arse it wasn’t funny.

I don't know how crappy your best buy must be but the Magnolia Department in mine is very knowledgeable especially with a simple question about how lightning will effect the screen . As for LCD vs Oled I've always recommended Oled regardless of setting. Just not Samsung's.
