That's the one I've been waiting for. It's basically Fire TV + Echo Dot + Harmony Hub. It seems stupid that it needs an ethernet adapter. Is it really that much more expensive space or cost wise to have it built in vs. an extra USB port to plug an adapter into?

is that an IR blaster to control other devices?
i currently have 2 harmony hubs but I use the remotes all of the time
i'm not ready to give up a remote and move to full voice control when watching TV.....i feel like they need to include a more advanced remote with this, or at least as an option

Looks awesome. They should put everything the Cube does inside a soundbar for an all in one device.

I'm a little surprised they didn't increase specs much from the dongle.
I wish they did. I still kind of want a better media streamer, but the convenience of Echo is tough to pass up.

The 2nd Gen Fire TV still has better specs than this...
Unless you have a 4k TV with HDR, I really don't see a reason to get this.

The only thing that really beats this is probably the Shield. Ugh. I really want a Shield, but it's another app/tool/combo, and I worry about the long term support.

This thread made me think of a question I've always had..
Am I the only person who thinks streaming and smart tv apps run better off devices like the PS4, Xbox One, Fire TV.. etc, than they do off an actual smart tv?
The secondary device just seemed more suited and powerful to run the apps, compared to a Smart TV

Echo + IR Blaster means you can voice control practically anything in your Home Entertainment center. For me that means I could control everything I have with just Alexa + Fire TV Remote. Right now I have to keep 2 extra remotes available to power on/off the sound system and TV. If you already have a universal remote and/or Harmony hub + Echo this may not matter, but if you don't it helps consolidate and get rid of some remotes.

The main difference appears to be that This has 2 A53s where the 2015 box had a faster A72 and an A53. I don't know what that means in terms of practical performance, but this isn't a gaming rig. Most people are using it to stream HD and UHD content. I would think it's more than adequate for that or they'd have given it better hardware.

The removal of the ethernet connection and SD card from the box pisses me off. Why even bother removing that?
The performance of the latest Fire TV is noticeably worse with every day usage. The menus sometimes lag and jump, and I never had any of those issues with the 2nd Gen Fire TV.

They include a separate adapter, so I don't think it's about saving cost. It really doesn't make much sense other than it's something driven by design/engineering, like Apple's crazy pursuit of ever thinner phones when most people would trade keeping the thickness the same for better battery life.

It's been a fact for awhile. I would expect that to change in the future though.
