dont knock it until you try it.
i use alexa all the time to change light colors; particularly when i'm working on the kitchen island i can set the 4 hue bulbs to a setting called CONCENTRATE which is a very blue/white light without getting up and if I'm messing with something its great not to have to get up and go find an app to change that setting.
the intercom feature is alexa's best feature IMO

Your internet connection will saturate long before your wifi.

while true, wifi 'real world' performance can be sketchy since its susceptible to interference.
i would never go back to wifi on my main TV or streaming boxes connected to it. i have a great wifi signal in my house and yet there are still those moments where netflix drops down to SHITfrick 360 resolution for a few seconds before rebounding back to HD and its annoying as frick.
on my main TV, streaming starts within 3-5 seconds and its solid as a rock for as long as i'm watching it.

tell that to all the chromecasts scattered around my house. not sure which wifi standard; i have mix of gen1 and gen2 chromecasts.

Gen1, nope, Gen2 yep
There is an app called wifi SweetSpots. You can run this from from phone in the areas you have chrome cast and measure your internal bandwidth. This is a wifi test, not internet bandwidth test.

i have both 5 and 2.4ghz wifi networks running. would it matter if ive connected the chromecasts to the 5 or the 2.4 as far as streaming goes?

right only my gen2 have 5ghz capabilities but one of my rooms with one is right at the edge of range for the 5 (and then it drops off a cliff).

i have like 8 chromecasts..this is what happens when you have tvs in multiple rooms and 4 children.
would netflix blasting away on 3-4 chromecasts over wifi at the same time have anything to do with the crappy pic quality i get from time to time?
the main tv is hard-wired and never has any issues so its got to be the wifi causing the problems.

Like I said, run that app, very useful to see what the current wifi bandwidth is anywhere in the house.

Who cares? Isn't the HDMI port behind your TV? That's not the only ugly cable dangling around back there

It will probably work fine for most but I would have to plug it into my sound reciever. Not really a lot of airflow and space back there and power cord could give a slight interference over my speaker wire. It also has a potential to damage an hdmi port hanging like that.
I'm sure it will be fine but I could easily see Amazon redesigning in the next year or coming out with a FireTv 4K Blu Ray player.

It's very inelegant with up to three interconnected little boxes, and it may block other ports or protrude from the side or bottom of the TV depending on the TV. If I didn't want to use an HDMI extension cable, I could probably get the mess out of the way with some velcro or 3M double-stick tape or perhaps cable ties. What really sucks for me would be the implied and continuing lack of IR support, and if it's like the stick, IP control is unofficial through the ADB program, with such high latency to make it painful to use.

i never had a stick but the fireTV box RF remote works great; i even put a few dumb games on it for my kids and the remote controls movements without any issues.
i guess i dont see the issue with RF vs IR here.

Yeah, I've never had any lag type issues with the remote on my Fire TV box unless it's a "reloading the home screen" kind of situation.

I want to use my universal remote, which is IR. It's got macro support, plenty of buttons for WMC, Kodi, VLC, BD player, ATV4, AVR, etc, NO LCD screen, flawless learning, and layout and feel second to none. Beats the shite out of every remote I've used, including Harmony models. They discontinued it years ago, but I've snagged several brand new spares at around $25 each over the years.
