Was wondering if anyone has used Prime Talk USA or the Patriot provider, etc.? These small companies use ATT and Verizon towers but offer a much cheaper price. Wondering if the service is high quality or do you feel throttled? Thanks for any insight.

I use mint (T-Mobile mvno). It’s fine. I notice issues in busy towers. But I have a work line through Verizon and just switch over to that when there’s an issue.

If it was my only provider I’d be annoyed in my area quite a bit.

Consumer cellular. Only issue I’ve noticed in a year is with texting. Some text take a while to receive and some show as sent but never get through to the other end. Could be iOS but I never recalled the issue with ATT. Other than that I’ve had no problems. A lot cheaper than ATT

I've heard good things about cricket, but I'm hesitant to make the jump from AT&T. It's a hell of a lot cheaper

If interested in Verizon, Visible offers the best plan, price and coverage.

Do you notice any issues with the streaming or phone calls? If in a congested area, do you know if Visible gets "backup network" coverage?

Not sure what “backup network” coverage is, but there are times when in a congested area (most noticeable at a shopping center) where data usage is extremely slow to the point of being unusable. The frequency of this happening hasn’t reached the point we’re I’m willing to part with the extreme savings, but it’s getting close. If they’d set a reasonable minimum data rate it would be perfect.

Cricket throttles. Consumer Cellular gives you full bandwidth. And Ive never had text issues like the previous poster and Ive been on CC for 10 years.

I use Cricket. I had ATT previously. I notice no difference at all. They say they throttle after the first 22GB per month but I have never used that much so I don't know.

I haven't found anyone to beat ATT prices for what I get.

I'm on the 9GB plan (including 5G and rollover of unused data) with $10 autopay discount - $40
One device - $20

All of these small carriers have limits on data speeds or video in some way shape or form and not much of a discount at all, if any.

I've checked Google Fi, Mint and Cricket, but none of them are worth switching given the limitations.

Maybe it makes sense for a family of 4, but I haven't compared those prices.

I just came here to post tis, Yahoo phone system. I got an email for 39.99 Unlimited and it looks like it is using Verizon signal? I have not dug that deep, but thats way cheaper than my Verizon line and if you bring your own phone you get $100 gift card Anyone have any insight on this?

It’s certainly slower than Verizon during peak times, however I have not experienced any issues with streaming music or video during these times.

Also, if you have a 5G phone, 5G service is included for free. So I would suspect that even with network congestion, 5G speeds even win slow down should be more than sufficient for what you’re looking for.

Between Total Wireless and Visible, I still prefer Total. I've had both. With 2 lines, Visible is $80/month (unlimited) and Total is $57/month for 2 lines with 30gb shared. I only used about 10gb/month, so the $23/month in savings is worth it to me.

I know you can team up with strangers to get a better rate on visible, but I have no interest in doing that.

For us, the unlimited plan is our best choice. I have a teenage daughter and an almost teenage daughter.

I have a feeling based upon the data amounts being shown on their plan, they could and would easily surpass any data plan restrictions.

With Cricket, you lose some roaming (some of which would appear as native AT&T coverage in a few parts of the country), you are deprioritized over AT&T post paid customers during congestion, and some plans have a hard throttle. Also, there's no phone financing and customer support is pretty terrible.

If you can live with that, then switch. Personally, I tried cricket after leaving AT&T and noticed a massive difference in service. Signal/coverage was the same, but videos kept buffering and sites were loading a bit slower. To me, it wasn't worth it.

Most MVNOs are subject to throttling right off the bat. I've checked the QCI of a few MVNOs and most of them have a lower priority QCI than the native postpaid ones AT ALL TIMES. There are a few MVNOs that towers treat the same as native postpaid users, but those MVNOs are the higher priced ones. If you're going to be paying a premium for that privilege, then you may as well become a postpaid native user IMO.

The only MVNOs that I have verified to be treated the same at the tower level as postpaid are Google's Fi and Spectrum Wireless. But as with all MVNOs, throttling could also be happening past the towers. The QCI just tells us how the "tower" treats your device. Other forms of throttling can still happen past the tower to discourage excessive usage.

Not necessarily. Verizon's mmW 5G has the same range as that of a WiFi hotspot. If you somehow manage to miraculously find a signal, then you'd be right in saying there won't be any congestion.

But the way Verizon is moving forward with 5G deployment nationwide is through Dynamic Spectrum Sharing. The current spectrum (PCS, AWS, & Cellular) being used for LTE will now also host "5G NR" on the same band and with the same bandwidth. Seeing as how DSS isn't very efficient right now, Verizon is practically going to be offering the same LTE speeds over the NR airlink.

We used Republic at one time, but moved on because they use Sprint's network which was terrible. I use Mint Mobile now. The wife uses T-Mobile prepaid. It's basically the same network, but I'm paying a little less.
