Anyone else sign up for this yet? It sounds like your Alexa will always be listening (maybe more than normal) as you don't even have to do the Wake word. Not sure I want that or wtf you actually get with Alexa+ that's beneficial. The email was filled with word salad I didn't feel like reading so I'm hoping one of you can give me the Cliffs and if it's been worth it for you so far.

Better Querying
The main role Alexa+ plays in my life is informational. I have an Echo Dot on my desk that I'm constantly querying while working, writing, or watching movies and TV. Even my previous-generation Dot seems better at picking up my voice than Google or Apple's phone-based smart assistants, and it's a lot easier to ask AI a question with my voice rather than interrupt my workflow by opening a new tab and punching a question into ChatGPT or Gemini. Alexa+ is also more responsive and better at maintaining a conversational flow of questions, commands, and answers than Siri or other assistants.

Contextual Reminders
It's also great at alarms and reminders. Beyond the standard notifications you can program in for a specific time and date, Alexa+ can provide recurring notifications. For instance, to ensure I didn't forget to watch the Ryder Cup last weekend, I told Alexa to set a recurring notification to be broadcast from the Echo Dot on my desk every two hours, and to only stop notifying me when I'd indicated that I'd received the message. You can leverage AI to set context-specific reminders ("remind me every time there's an upcoming Buffalo Bills game"), or import reminders from your existing calendar. You can even have Alexa+ help you build new reminders based on emails, and it can generate a color-coded calendar of its own to help manage your family's activities.

PCMag

I'm not using anything without a wake word. Since it's in early access, I don't have Alexa+ yet. I just asked it to alert me 30 minutes before every Liverpool match, and Alexa responded by setting an alarm...for 30 minutes from now. Based on the PCMag article, I presume Alexa+ would be smart enough to know that I wanted a reminder at 11 tomorrow (30 minutes before the match), not 30 minutes from when I make the request.

I have it. It still has a wake word. It's a modern AI with a selection of natural sounding voices. It listens for a bit after it's initial response, so you can have a conversation with it.

I've been beta testing it for a while now. It sucks.

Old Alexa -

TF99: "Alexa, turn off front room light in 90 minutes"
Alexa: "ok, turning off front room light in 90 minutes"

Alexa+ -

TF99: "Alexa, turn off front room light in 90 minutes"
Alexa: " hold on while I create a new one-time routine for that.

5 seconds later...

"TF99, I have created a one-time routine to turn off the front room light in 90 minutes. Is there anything else I can do for you?"

I've changed settings and had long conversations with her trying to get her to understand, in the kindest way, to just do what I ask, tell me simply when your done or ask a follow up question, and most importantly to just shut the frick up.

I change Alexa response to a masculine, friendly voice. Sounds like a guy I would have a couple of beers with at the neighborhood bar.
