I've never owned Apple earbuds but have everything else Apple (iPhone, iPad, watch).
I currently use Sony XB700 Xtra Bass earbuds and I like them. But I am thinking about getting the 3rd Generation AirPods in September.
How is the sound quality of the current model, how is the bass, and is the 3rd Generation supposed to get sound improvements? TIA

You do pay a premium but the Airpod Pros are the best buds I have experienced. They fit very well in the ear and the sound quality is great.

I find that the 3rd Generation AirPods are too bulky and hurt my ears after prolonged use.
I have an older model (2nd Gen) that fits better in my ears...
Make sure you test them out first.

I think they have adequate bass and sound pretty good for what they are designed for. They will have better bass than the regular airpods because they are closed back and sealed.
