Supposedly AMD's Ryzen family is a better buy - comparable performance for much less money. But I'm not as expert on the topic as others and it probably depends on specific models.

Well Pentium and i3 are bottom of the barrel Intel CPUs.

As usual, it depends.

I'd get a R7 over a Pentium and i3 7000 series, but the i3 8350 is a quad core now. For gaming especially overclocked, the i3 8350 is probably faster.
