13.5 inch 2 in 1 laptop recommendations

The wife wants a laptop for Christmas and I can get reimbursement from my work for it. She doesn't really need the most high powered laptop as her work includes spreadsheets, internet browsing, Instagram, and maybe some basic photo editing. Mainly wants something light and portable. Touchscreen functionality and convertibility are a bonus. Prefers windows to chromeOS. Thinking at least 8gb ram and 256 ssd should be fine. Are asus and HP the top of the laptop foodchain? Any recommendations? Tia

Thanks. I will look at the xps 13.
ETA it looks like it's not touch, and the touch model is $1600 plus.

Have you looked at a surface pro? Or does she want something more like a laptop?

Did some cursory browsing at bestbuy but she didnt seem too blown away by anything. From what I gathered they can get pretty pricey. Honestly I don't see the big deal about touch, pens, and convertibility gimmicks, but I don't know if I'm missing out on the wave of the future or if the current trend will go the way of 3d TVs.
I can certainly see the utility of a small and ultralight laptop. If it were for me, I would buy the best windows equivalent to the MacBook air. To answer your question I haven't played around with the surface. She's thinking about it some more. What're your thoughts blue

I had an OG surface pro for a few years and loved it. My dad just got the black friday new surface pro deal and I got to play around on it a bit. Pretty amazing machine.
Finding a refurb on an older model like a pro 3 or 4 wouldn't be a terrible route.
I've also heard good things about the HP spectre x360s and lenovo thinkpad yogas

I mean, it really just depends on how she wants to use it. You cant go wrong with either style. I love the surface line, but I also really like some of the T&L out there.
If you want more of a tablet laptop, go 2&1. If you want more of a laptop feel, go T&L with a touchscreen. T&L will generally be much thinner and lighter than 2&1s too

I think I have settled on hp Spectre x360. They're running a decent deal ATM where I can get 16gb of ram with the i7 8550 and 512 sad for $1200. A comparable surface pro 6 is $1700.
Regarding the xps 13, if it were for me I would buy it without touch no questions asked. I appreciate that you didn't pay $1600, but it's a Christmas gift and they aren't offering a deal atm, so the price is 1600.

That's gonna be better than your PC

Sure is. One of my sets of Samsung super ram crapped out and I only have a 256ssd.
