Imagine suggesting this. As if MLS were in the same galaxy as Ligue 1. The ignorance is astounding.
Is anyone suggesting it is?

where did you get that from what I said? all things relative, both MLS and Ligue 1 can be subpar, in different realms. get that baton out of your arse

No one has said that

He's so eager to bash MLS that he's not paying attention to what people are actually saying.

Didn't the MLS just recently approve solidarity payments for youth programs? That should help a good bit with development at the youth level in the US.

Uh huh
And you don’t see the hypocrisy in MLS fans bashing L1?

I don't see anyone doing this outside of comparing them to The rest of the big 5 leagues.

it's only hypocrisy if assume that the MLS fans are equating the two leagues. again, both can be bashed at their relative level for what they are. I would sure as shite hope that L1 is in a "different galaxy" than a league that is younger than the average age of most L1 players

Can I bash both?

Why does that counter the point that teams are no longer losing money on the regular? Are you also trying to be disingenuous and reinforce that only 2 teams in Europe are profitable?
They are a few clubs that are quite good at developing talent or identifying young talent and selling it.
These type clubs do not lose significant money long term but they also are often near the bottom of the table.
More importantly, these are certainly the clubs that make top leagues, well, top leagues.
Those clubs--aside from EPL with current monstrous TV deal-- like say Juve or Napoli, for example, may have posted big profits last year but they will spend every dime of that to improve the team --all the while carrying debt as close to the maximum allowed by FFP.

That's debatable, at least in reference to MLS academies. The players' union has been firmly against the solidarity payments.

Yeah because it makes the current crop a little less marketable, but those aren't generally top league guys anyway right? Besides, it's not like USA is on top right now. Anything that can help youth development, even if it means a few guys get passed over for Europe right now, is more important.

Sure

Usually these people have never watched more than 5 minutes of L1 to even make an assessment.
And then turn around and support a much worse team in a much worse league.

Why would the players’ union be against the payments?

The players feel this is a hindrance for foreign clubs to pick them up because it adds to the cost of players, although I'm not sure if that is true or not.

It doesn’t seem like they discourage purchases from other leagues but idk about the rules in each individual country.

This is new, just approved in April.

Are you sure? I thought they have had these trickle down payments for a while now.

I think they can tend to get an idea of a least the top 6 teams by watching CL/EL.

You don't see the difference?
