is a top 10 ranking within the realm of possibility come December?

Probably not. But if we finish strong and win the Gold Cup, and do well throughout the last of the WCQ, there's a pretty good chance we'll move within top 15 come December. I'd say we'll have to have really good showings against Mexico, however to do that.

And even though its a friendly, our game with Bosnia next month could have some importance, seeing as how they're currently ranked 14th and have beaten some good teams lately.

As far as I know, fifa rankings do not take into consideration friendlies.

You're right. I thought they were worth 1.5 points in their calculations, but they're actually just 1. So disregard what I just said.

The games are weighted based on how "important" they are but that system is still very flawed. Our 1-0 win over Costa Rica in the GC got us the most points from a single game since our win over Algeria in the 2010 WC.

Grant Wahl said we would go up to 16 if we won the Gold cup...and its hardly meaningless as some on this board are claiming...as a comparison between two teams, sure, the rankings are somewhat meaningless...but, FIFA uses them to determine the seeds for the WC groups

I wouldn't put too much stake in those rankings. They are essentially bullshite

they are pretty bullshite, but they're not worthless.

This discussion is kinda moot though, as far as our team goes.

We would have to get into the top seven to be at the "top" of any WC group, and we ain't makin it that far. Even if we win out of our CONCACAF qualifying.

It is nice to see us climbing up the standings and all, but still, we will not be the head of any group.

nor should we be. we've been fantastic to watch, and have clearly been a cut above the rest of CONCACAF, but I'm not sure anyone could make a reasonable argument for us to be seeded at the top of a WC group.

no, they if you are in the top 10, you don't get put in group with another top 10 team in the world cup.

Logic is not someone's strong point lol.
Since when have there been 10 WC groups?
