Not disputing this. I'm talking waaay down the road if soccer becomes a top 2 or 3 sport in the nation in terms of popularity. If we get to this point, the glass ceiling for the MLS will be the fact that it is competing in the CONCACAF Champions League.

Another possible solution to breaking that glass ceiling WAYYYYY down the road is if the league becomes financially solvent enough to do away with the designated player rule and allow big market teams to throw money at players in their primes.
If you look at the highest earning team sport athletes the list is dominated by NFL, NBA, and MLB players. The only soccer players at the top are messi, Ronaldo, and beckham, who makes his money through endorsements bc he lives in LA and Americans know him.
Point is, if the MLS reaches those heights financially there will be world class players who will choose the US's money over Europes prestige.

I think part of the current problem is also that the players at the end of each roster don't make a whole hell of a lot. For the 527 non DP players in 2012, the average salary was 93,550.03. Which is a pittance compared to other US leagues. I mean punters get at least like 400,000 or 500,000.

It was always talked about that Rochester would move up. Haven't heard anything about this in several years. Charlotte was also good.
