It’s a message board man. This is longest thread I can remember on this board that we’ve had in like a month that isn’t a single season long one.

Honestly most boards not named Tiger Rant or OT feel dead

If it’s the mid week and no games are on this board can be dead.
Gaming board is the only one similar that I actually read.

This was probably the most civil discussion of any thread on the SB in a long time
Except beatbammer’s retarded post

I don’t see any other top EPL clubs throwing out a full U23 side with another manager taking control, thank god, but somehow Klopp can do this and not a peep about it??
Correct. Our starters are well rested now and we advanced anyway.

I just want to leave this here because I think this whole discussion is worthwhile and there are usually always two sides to every argument.
I have only followed soccer closely since 2009/10. Felt drawn to Liverpool mostly because I just really identified with Gerrard. I got involved just in time to have my heart ripped out by Torres to Chelsea.
So I’m not a long timer. I don’t have the historical perspective of others who “grew up” following soccer. But I do love it. There’s a poetry and genuineness that it has that no other game brings. Run hard. Play hard. Extreme effort can be rewarded (I mean how does anyone not just applaud Shrewsbury for that first leg?). But also beautiful displays of individual brilliance that completely change a match in one moment(oh my Coutinho). Or a horrible mistake that will haunt for ages (I’m looking at you Loris).
That being said, I don’t care about the FA Cup or the League Cup. I care about the EPL and the Champions League. And while I understand SCH and others viewpoint, it seems a vestige of a bygone era. Like the NIT. It’s there. If we are playing for nothing else sure go for it. But I don’t feel I have any reason to make it important. And I don’t feel it’s my fault. It’s what I’ve picked up from the whole soccer community. And being told that I should care by guys like SCH makes me care less.
If you want it to matter, your sport should emphasis it. And they don’t. At all. Because if they did I, a late comer fan, would care.
Soccer as a community has deemphasized it in favor of top leagues and European football. It is what it is. I think the question now should be how do you change that. Or does anyone really care?

We are looking at *potentially*: Back to back CL champs, PL champs, undefeated PL season, CWC champs, and still have FA Cup on the table. I think even if you throw the FA Cup out, that still adds up to one of the greatest teams ever.

While I understand your take
It’s still off
The FA Cup has always been the third priority for the biggest clubs in England but it’s still a huge deal domestically. With the money being such a big motivation it is understandable how the big clubs don’t throw all their eggs in it at first unless they matched up with another big club or their rivals. United vs City in the FA cup a few years ago was a prime example of that or Spurs vs Arsenal.
Even for the big clubs the FA cup presents its local fans the best chance to actually attend a cup final and give them a day out in London. That’s a huge deal and the later rounds give more of a potential for the big rivals to meet in a cup setting which turns up the intensity.
The solution is honestly to make the FA Cup winner’s revenue more than just a few million pounds and increase domestic TV coverage. The third round has a many matches and maybe an 8th of them end up on tv.

The club World Cup is a novelty cup
FA Cup is much more important in the grand scheme of a good season when you are looking at getting the treble
Will be interesting to see what Klopp rolls out vs Chelsea. Fully expect Lampard to go full strength like his mentor Jose does in every competition.

Still a nice trophy to have in addition to the others. FA cup clearly has history and prestige especially in England, but I don’t think it makes or breaks this squad as being regarded as one of the best.
I think Klopp will have to go full strength now...definitely no u23 appearances at least.

It will be interesting for sure
Like has been talked about squad depth is still and issue
If he really wants to go unbeaten it will effect the champions league as well
And Liverpool hasn’t been lights out in Europe this year

The European champions are expected to win that competition year in and year out.
I don’t know of any other competition that you can say Liverpool should be winning without a doubt when the season began.

Yeah Atletico will not be a walk in the park. We at least are getting some CB depth back, but Matip and Lovren are injury prone. Not much depth at LB/RB and if Keita can’t stay healthy we’re kind of thin in the MF too. Don’t see Klopp running his squad into the ground to go unbeaten so I’m sure the focus will be on trophies. Wrap up PL then focus on everything else.

That’s fair. But also if my opinion on it is off I don’t think it’s my fault it’s off.
When you have people like Pochettino making statements like
“We are going to create a debate that to win a trophy is going to help the club....I don’t agree with that. That only builds your ego. In reality the most important thing is being consistently in the top four and playing in the Champions League.”
Comments like this don’t help new fans understand or help us care

The FA has done a terrible job marketing the competition to international fans especially newer ones to the game.

This is exactly why he got canned.
