Weston McKennie has urged U.S. talents to follow his example and come to Europe at a young age, telling ESPN FC: "If you have the opportunity to come to Europe, I would say for me ... 100 percent take it!"

"If you have the opportunity to come to Europe, I would say for me how I did it? 100 percent take it! If it's the right choice, if everything fits, if everything makes sense, I would say come," he said. "You don't want to start in MLS and always have the question in the back of your head if you could have made it over there? I didn't want that.

No that's work permit and its an England issue.

Juan was also not going over there to join the Stoke academy.

England does this for non EU guys to ensure they are international quality or have the potential to be, so they can keep the standard of the league high.

Much easier for a 18 year old to join an English youth academy like Matthew Olosunde.

You took what I said hella literal... A EU passport makes it MUCH easier to get a work permit. And no, Juan wasn't trying to join Stoke Academy, but even for those that join the academy, they can practice but can't feature in any official matches without the work permit.

Won't matter probably with Brexit soon.

At least from my experience in my FM saves

Soooooo
What is the actual protocol. I would love for some guys in Louisiana to have a chance to tryout for squads in Europe. Pardon my ignorance, but what is the step by step sequence?

Get a passport from a European country, or wait until you are 18.

Does the MLS ever try to under cut moves?

Like, if a player is drafted(not sure of age rules for MLS draft), do they get to make a claim on player? Or do they have to be contracted to an MLS academy or team to be considered MLS,"Property"?

Teams have started to sign guys to homegrown contracts to stop them from jumping to Europe but there is really not much they can do if the player wants to go.

The problem with the MLS youth setup is that none of the players in a team's academy are considered their property. So if a play wants to leave to join another team outside of MLS not only is there nothing the team can do about it they also don't get compensation like the ones in Europe. It's also the player's choice to enter the draft so a team can't draft him and lay claim to him.

I also think a drafted player isn't an MLS player until he signs a contract, but I could be wrong.

I believe that's true unless you sign a GA contract

I suppose I should have said that this is for someone over 18.
