Which defender was obstructed?
Ederson and the two defenders. He ran several yards with the ball UNDER HIS FEET. Although he didn’t touch the ball, he was most definitely playing the ball in and at the last second he is allowed to let someone Nick it into the goal?
If that were a legal play, don’t you think we’d see shite like this from “the training ground” on a regular basis?
He was ON the ball.
He was PLAYING the ball.
He AFFECTED the defenders and the goal.

When he didn't even make an attempt on the ball?
Posted on 1/14/23 at 8:50 am to LuckySo-n-So
He never played the ball or attempted to shoot it
If anything the gray area is his run changing the decision making of the City defenders
But once Bruno called for it Rashford got away from the ball completely then Bruno shot it

Hard to do when Rashford effectively ran a screen against him.

If rashford isn't there then ederson probably comes off his line earlier and clears it. At least you can certainly make that case.
I think it was pretty easily offside, personally.
But I'm glad it stood just for the chaos.
eta: Had Rashford, knowing he was offside, pulled up his run early that would be one thing. But he legit took 5 or so paces with the ball under his feet.

None of the two defenders even made a play on the ball. If they had, than yeah I'd agree with you. However, they both just ran with the play waiting on the call.
Ederson may have been deceived, but he wasn't obstructed physiaclly or with line-of-site.

Love the decision of no offsides but I will say that goal will likely result in a rule change. In honesty if rashford wasn’t there I still don’t think much would’ve been different.

SCH knows that was a shite call but he's being a good soldier. Salute

Watch the replay again. Akanji wasn't even running the direction of the ball movement.

Which second games y’all watching? I’ve got Wolves West Ham on. I like a good train wreck.

I love watching people arguing about interpretations of the LOTG who have likely never taken a referee class and have never blown a whistle in charge of a U8 rec game, let alone a professional league match.

They couldn’t “make a play” on the ball because it was under Rashford’s feet, between his legs. No whistle. No flag. The custom since VAR is to play it through and sort it out after. Why risk a penalty by sticking your foot in and possibly tripping him in the box? You don’t commit a penalty because you think the guy is offsides.
Ederson had to play Rashford because he “had” the ball.
It’s all fricking horse shite.

You don't have to take a referee class to watch that and know that it without question affected the play of the defenders the keeper.
Only a nerd who has only taken a referee class and never actually played the sport could interpret it otherwise.

Curious, what is your interpretation of the call?
