That’s the problem with US soccer in 2026.

The 2002 team won less games than the 2026 team. They won the same amount of knockout stage games. The 2002 team beat a CONCACAF team in the knockout while the 2026 team beat a Euro team, something they haven't done since that same 2002 World Cup.

So all in all, the 2002 team made it further only because they received an easier draw.

We had the 5th best team in the world led by Luis Figo and a host nation. Oh, and we didn’t play at home.

This tournament we got to be a seeded team, play at home and advance in a watered down tournament.

And CONCACAF or not, 2002 Mexico is better than 2026 Bosnia and don’t forget the U.S. should’ve beaten Germany in that 2002 Quarterfinal. They didn’t get drummed 4-1 AT HOME.

You know this is a stupid argument.

To be fair, the team is soft as frick and it’s deserved. Pulisic especially.

Here's the difference. Donovan and Dempsey....in particular came from tough backgrounds anyway. They were scrappers. Howard was just a remarkable goalie who brought it each and every game.

Those guys who were playing 15-20 years ago were playing to get noticed by the big clubs....accept for Howard, everyone in European soccer KNEW who he was.

94 team would call all these guys soft. You should see the story of those guys. What they pulled off was pretty impressive. What they did in 1995 down in Argentina was probably even greater.

And honestly the way we played leading up, who knows if we would have even qualified.

WTF?

2002, we had the host nation (who made it to the semi's) and Portugal in our group. Our group this year was an absolute joke, and Bosnia was a shite team compared to 2002 Mexico. Stop being so obtuse.

I do think that our team now is not as resilient, mentally, as the prior generations. But that's just a sign of the times. 20 year olds today are given everything and didn't have to struggle like prior generations, either through soccer or just life experience in general.

That being said, Landon took a leave from the team, which lead to him being left off the 2014 world cup team, so I don't really want to hear him preach about "toughness."

Being reported that Pulisic suffered a bone bruise and microfracture of his tibia/fibula against Belgium.

Pulisic is injury prone. It sucks. That's just how it is though. He had no business continuing that game, as he couldn't even sprint. He tried to stay on. Lando, Mr. Mexico, calling him out on this is dumb as hell. Call out the rest of the team for playing soft though. They got bullied throughout the game. Those first two goals and the last goal were all because of soft play and being overpowered.
