Y'all bringing back memories.

The most comfortable cleats I wore were Kelme, don't remember the model.

Adidas world cup was the standard. Had the screw ins and turf.

New cleats are hideously ugly. I blame Jorge campos and any Brazil player.

I wouldn't pay over a 100 bucks for anything but kangaroo leather. I can't stand that synthetic shite.

Kind of a thread hijack but my boys want the Messi cleats for the fall season (I just get the cheapest $60 version). I know they have the silver color out right now but I saw on footyheadlines that there is supposed to be a shock blue color coming out in July. Does anyone know if that's true?

How old is he?

Once you reach a certain age where you get more explosive and start taking hard cuts going cheap is a bad bad thing. Its crucial to take care of your feet with proper footwear now days.

Our kids are not growing up with rough and tough feet from playing barefoot soccer like in other countries.

I never spent more than $100 on cleats and I played at a high level through high school.

Cleats were also way cheaper back when we were that age.

My preds were like 120

The most I ever spent was on those primeknits which was about 180 b/c they were on sale. They retailed when they first came out for 330.

If I ever have kids, they're never going to wear cleats to play soccer unless they absolutely have to. If they're in the yard, we're going barefoot. You'll learn how to kick better, and your feet will be tougher.

strengthens the ankles as well, which helps out a LOT down the road by preventing common ankle injuries

One time I rolled my ankle checking into a junior high basketball game

Kelme were the first, but they didn´t have proper distribution and thought the world would beat a path to their door.

I have 2 boys, 9 and 8. So do you think the cheap version ($60) of the Messi cleats would not be good for them? I'm willing to spend $100 for the next level up, but any more than that for growing boys seems a waste since they will grow out of them.

The only reason I get the Messi cleats is because he's their favorite player - and they are Adidas so I think they are pretty well made. Any advice is appreciated. If you think another model cleat would be better let me know.

Thanks

At 8 and 9 they don't need anything expensive.

The $60 model is fine. They won't know the difference but just know its Messi's cleats.

you dont need $200+ cleats. that's just silly man.

if anything at my age (mid 30s and 15 lbs overweight) if there was ever an age where i needed $200+ cleats it would be now. And my copas work just fine.

plus they're not yellow, or orange.

although i do have a pretty shitty ankle that constantly hurts after every game if i even so much as step in the slightest pothole. it's an injury from my teen years so maybe i should have worn better cleats back then.

Thanks, SCH. So 2 questions:

1) Does anyone know when the shock blue Messi cleats are coming out? Rumor is July.

2) At what age would you say they need to start getting "serious" cleats?

Who downvoted Xabi's tirade about Nike being cheap plastic, they don't know shite about football (just basketball), and have been in football for three days?!?!?!?

I can't remember, but I may have. Post a translation next time.

Thanks. My older son will be doing competitive soccer starting this fall, so travel, tournaments, etc but I guess he is still too young to warrant spending $100 on a pair of cleats?

And footyheadlines is where I saw the rumor. I'll keep checking it.
