How shitty is our backline?

We have the most inconsistent backline I have ever seen.

But after the game vs. the Messicans they were the greatest backline of all time...

I expect a mild bounce back performance vs. Ze Germans.

Besler and Gonzo will be great players for us down the road.

With a little more experience, I thing Cameron and Gonzales can be our answers. But the inconsistentcy makes me want to beat up a midget.

I don't know much about Beslar, but it looks like he has great pace.

This is what happens when you don't have the veteran leadership of Boca and Dolo. This new young group will get better with time. Until then expect ups and downs. Good and poor performances. Consistency will come eventually.

i think we have a lot of solid defenders, just not fielding a consistent lineup has been the problem.

I posted this in the other thread about the backline

We need to pick a back 4 and go with it. Let these guys get used to playing with each other. Goodson is obviously a backup at best but he starts last night. He was the 4th best CB on the field for us. Let Besler and Gonzo get the minutes together if Boca is out for good and we are moving on. They are our best pairing if Cameron is staying at RB. Onto that...

Still not sold on Cameron as our best option at RB. If Dolo is done, then it's Cam or Chandler. Chandler looked like shite against Honduras but who didn't. Cameron is pretty slow for a RB and is not going to scare many people coming forward. He also played well for us with his opportunities at CB.

At LB, Beasley has been playing pretty well. Certainly has the pace you want there and last night was our best attacker going forward. Made some good runs and won some corners. If we keep him there then you can slide Fabian up to LM as well.

Bottom line, we need continuity. If this is in fact a changing of the guard and our old vets are out, the young guys need to gel together and someone needs to emerge as the leader of the back 4.

saw that in the other thread. good post. I do think Besler and Gonzo are our best options at centre-half right now. They should both go the full 90 against Germany on Sunday, anything less is a mistake by Klinnsman.

LB and RB are the interesting positions right now. a lot of dynamics in play there.

1. Cherundolo may be done for good. I hope not, but he made a decision to stay in Germany this summer. In his eyes, saving himself for the upcomming Bundesliga season is more important than the USMNT. It's understandable, he's getting up there in age, and that's where his money is made.

2. Recently, Fab has been playing as a right winger for Hoffenheim, does Klinsmann give him a run in attack, or is he the first choice LB as we all thought just a couple of months ago.

3. Cameron isn't a traditional RB, but he's strong, works hard, and is generally one of our more talented players. Plus, he put in a lot of minutes at RB for Stoke throughout the tail end of the BPL season.

4. Beasley has played admirably, but he's clearly not the long term solution. I'd love to see him get some time at LW. For now, I think he's JK's number 1 LB.

5. Chandler needs to get his arse on a plane to DC, he's cap tied himself to the US, but he doesn't show any real desire to suit up in the red white and blue. RB, LB, RW. He's capable of playing all three for us, and more often than not he's an upgrade.

* Castillo and the host of other MLS scrubs we've brought into camp don't merit any real consideration at this point.

Castillo has played well, and you could make an argument for his inclusion, particularly if you're moving another pacy player (Beasley, F. Johnson) to LM.

Eric Lichaj has played well for the US in the past, and can play LB and RB, and played pretty well (at times) for a terrible Aston Villa and also merits consideration, IMO.

Instead, we get Danny Williams, who has been decidely average (at best) in every position he's been tried at, and hasn't played for his club in months.

Because, you know, current form is extremely important when choosing a national team, according to our coach.

yep. Lichaj deserves a shot.

If he was plying his trade in the MLS, I have to believe he'd be on the roster right now.

Agree with everything else, but Beasley cannot be the 1st choice LB. he will cost us points.

Only good thing about Beas is his recovery. He gets beat like a drum on a consistent basis. 80% of the time he does get back. However, against a top flight team. It's not going to work out to well.

It showed. But no defender looked good.

Goodson cost us a goal.
Gonzo cost us a goal.
Beasley should have had a penalty in the box.
Besler should have had a penalty in the box.

It was an incredibly rough night. One of the worst US performances I can remember.

Could've easily been a 6-0 loss. Cameron might have been offside on his header. No way should the US PK have been a PK. Beasler, Beasley could've given 2 penalties. Yikes.

Lichaj is on a free. Out of contract. He could go back to MLS.

Beasley is not Jk's 1st choice LB, Fabian Johnsom is. And Cameron isn't his 1st choice RB, Dolo/Chandler is.

Lalas said after an interview with Klinnsman, that he's going to put him at RW. where he plays for hoffenheim.

Dolo is not worth considering right now. Not even part of the national team at this point.

So does that mean he sees Beasley as the LB? Am I forgetting someone?

If we are still experimenting. I wouldn't mind letting Castillo play LB and moving Fab to mid
