Xavi and Iniesta would damn well play against England.

Torres does not = Xavi or Iniesta. Skill can make up for size.

I think Edu, Torres, and Bradley should all start against England.

I don't think Bob has the balls to go 4-1-4-1, but he needs to think about it.

Torres has better skill in possession than anyone besides Donovan. The key will to not be intimidated by Lamps and Gerrard. They're not massive players physically and Torres is handy on the ball.

I know but both of them are really scrappy, physical players. I don't know if Torres is ready to get roughed around on that type of stage. But then again he does play in the sphincter of the world (Mexico) where that type of play is normal.

Any any case I don't think he'll hurt our chances at all by playing against England. Just a matter of whether he'll thrive/hold his own against them or merely get by.

We will need a player that can recycle possession when under pressure. If we can get equal possession against the Limeys we should do fine.

I was working today...

Henderson was updating me though.

He noted shoddy, unorganized defensive play in teh first half and bad touch in the last third of the field.

However, he gave me cliff notes of big time energy and play coming from Findley in the second half, as well as awesome play from El Gringo.

Were those two guys that big of difference in the game? And how was the defense in the second half?

Defense wasn't too shabby in the second half. Gooch looked sharp. Dolo played much better than Spector. Bornstein...well we won't go there.

So I didn't post much during the game as I was hosting a watchparty/drunkfest. Here is what I saw. Bornstein sucks. Dempsey is not a striker. Tim Howard is going to kill a defender during the WC. Torres MUST play. Bornstein SUCKS. The first half I was pissed, the second half gave me some hope. I would like to have seen Findley be more consistent as after his great pass to Landy Cakes, he was too aggressive and ran it over the end line at least 2 times. Oh yeah, Bornstein sucks!!!!!

He was better on the ball than Donovan today. Other than the two great assists, I thought Donovan had a sub-par day for him.
If we can beat Turkey 2-1 with Donovan not playing his best, that's a good thing.
Lot of positives to take away from this game.
The first half was bad, but I think it was a good learning experience.
Findley was a huge positive surprise for me. If he can learn from his two (I think it was two) mess-ups near the goal, he could be a big help against Slovenia/Algeria. He played with poise and skill that he didn't show at all against Holland.
Bradley was good all game. He's going to be a stud in 2014. I wish he had taken that shot, but the pass wasn't bad.
Dolo made a big difference. I don't think we can afford not to start him.
Gooch didn't get challenged much, but he looked less tentative today.
Demerit isn't spectacular, but he solidified his spot today.

Whatever the midfield starting combo is, I don't think it can include Clark. Holden and Torres are just too good to sit.

I'm not familiar with the names, but they were a good team. Beat the Czech's the other day.

It was a very serious line-up. Their second half subs were also serious players who were offensive minded and in form.

Their only non-regular starters were Selcuk Inan and Caglar, who have both played before but are younger guys.

That will be the preferred lineup for Turkey under Hiddink.

Kid was everywhere all day. Could have taken the shot in H2, but laid it off. He's a real asset. Impressive.

if donovan's not playing his best, and he is still obviously the best player on the field, is that a good thing?

JF Torres is the MOTM for me. Bornstein is the
un-MOTM.

Donovan was good but not great, excepting his two assists. He was holding back a little, I think. Jozy played pretty well, took his goal cleanly and got back a lot to help defend. Dempsey looked ineffective at times, but as SFP noted quite presciently, he has that special something that the team needs. He has the ability to score late in the game when we need a goal.

Nice effort overall, but our defense is easy peasy too swiss cheesy.
