They were wrong. Until we don't get a positive result at home, I am not concerned.

So from everything I'm gathering from this board, you guys think we can compete in the world cup. 90% of you guys talk like we are actually relevant. USA soccer is no threat in FIFA and the whole world knows it. Thats my frustration!

We should expect 3 at Jamaica too. Guatamala in Guatamala was the toughest game of the entire group.

He's not a huge soccer guy, he just watched with me.

I played in HS and college (intramurals before Alabama had a club) and I coach a U-14 select girl's team.

He just can't handle me hollering "SHOOT CAKES! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!" about 20 times a match.

What's compete? Make it out of group stage? Yes, we absolutely can, and we've been doing so the last few years for the most part. Can we win? Hell no, not right now. But we are making steps in the right direction.

Tonight was pretty predictable, but Jozy's instincts as a striker, for all the improvements he's made in other areas, still aren't there.

Landon plays in a nice ball and he doesn't exactly put himself out to get to it. Fine, not a huge deal, but then pulling up when Bradley squared it was inexcusable. No great goal scorer would ever pull up there, he'd be bearing down on the goalie, if anything to get a rebound if Bradley shoots. It would have never crossed Dempsey's mind to pull up there. Its not exactly that complicated why he's not a big time goal scorer yet, even if his hold up play and other areas have improved.

And Edu who I think is normally serviceable was kind of awful. Well, his passing at least.

I don't expect us to be elite but getting out of the knowout rounds and making it to the quarterfinals is extremely fun.

I spent a year in Argentina. Their country shuts down for a game like this. We are watching a crappy feed for $30.

We shouldn't expect to be elite.

We've made the knockout stage in the last two WCs. That's top 16.

Do you know who didn't do that in 2010?
France.
Serbia.
Denmark.
ITALY.

I know I shouldn't be surprised, but I always just get dumbfounded on where in the frick they find these shitty arse refs for or games. It makes my blood boil and is the reason I often just turn off US games. We go from 2-0 to 1-1 in the blink of an eye thank to a ref.

Australia is asia now. Winner of oceania used to play 5th place conmebol. Didnt even know it existed anymore. I thought last qualifying 4th place concacaf played 5th conmebol. I may ne wrong and could have been last eufa team.

In theory, it would be the same in Argentina if they were playing Guatemala under the current broadcast rules.

Now every bar would be showing the game, sure, but the fact this game isn't on ESPN is not due to lack of fan interest. It is the arcane CONCACAF laws that give the home team way too much power over distribution.

Didn't realize this. However, how many people in the US know a game is being played?

I got to skip class for a day in Argentina because they were playing Bolivia.

I'm going to disagree. I think he is a lot better than he used to be. He was a sub and could have contributed to TWO goals in what 40 minutes ? That's not bad.

Right, that happened in 2010. In 2006, 4th place CONCACAF (Trinidad) played the Asian wild card (Bahrain) and got in the World Cup.

In 2010, 4th place CONCACAF (Costa Rica) lost to 5th place CONMEBOL (Argentina).

They changed it again and this year 4th place CONCACAF will play Oceania's champs.

His pull up on Bradley's pass was just baffling and then he gave a look to Bradley. Agree with what Hendo posted early: Gomez would've continued that run.

As much heat as Edu will get, I was more let down by Jones' passing and decision making in the attacking third tonight. Certainly not lack of physical effort but man it seemed he just pointlessly lobbed one pass after another hopefully toward the area. He also pulled the ball back when there was much better option way too many times.
