Wasn't someone else going to announce it if he didn't?

In any event, I don't believe, at least historically, that the locker rooms of professional sports teams are an evironment particularly accepting of homosexuality. As far as I know, the reaction to athletes who have recently "come out" has been positive, but we don't need to pretend that it still isn't a leap of faith based upon hisotrical attitudes.

Exactly. Wear different colors for people afflicted with diseases or sexual assault victims to heighten awareness and raise money. What US Soccer is doing here instead is just being political under the guise of community action.

Spot on. It's fricking stupid to push politics in sports. Especially with the National Team.

With a word like persecution, I assume he's refering to state or government body. People not liking or saying mean things doesn't really count under that banner.

I was just trying to explain how I perceived him post.

For the rainbow numbers, I just think it's a shameless money grab for virtue signaling. Will still buy and support US Soccer.

Well it does bother me. Don't tell me how to think.

Too many people think the gay rights movement is equal to the civil rights movement. It isn't. Quit pushing your beliefs on me for no reason. The team is supposed to represent everyone in the country, including people on BOTH sides of this issue.

I will say that among the soccer-centric community and in those cities, there isn't much persecution of gays going on.

Gay people have so thoroughly taken over midtown Atlanta that their big struggle right now is convincing the city to permanently paint the crosswalks rainbow.

I can't really muster outrage over the jerseys, though singling out certain groups to celebrate is pretty stupid, IMO.
