It's been my argument from the beginning, you are the one careening all over the place and lashing out.

Athletes aren't the problem.

No

You argued that America’s best athletes do choose soccer

Go take a peak at how much ground the USL Academy network covers

It's easy to imagine a future 15-20 years from now where USL is the driving force behind a thriving USMNT, unless of course USSF gets their wish and kills them off.

To make this even clearer

Lionel Messi. Let’s change him to Billy Bankston. Exact same DNA and everything. Born to American parents in Georgia. Dad was a great high school football player and mom on the cheer team.

The high probability is little Billy would have never been a damn soccer player even though he had the dna to be the best ever. The fact he was born in America he would have most likely been a fricking stud second baseman

I think most in USSF are pro-USL especially after MLS trying to big dick Open Cup. The problem is that a lot of them are too much of a pussy to cross Garber.

I think the direction is ok, but slow and not enough people care enough to push it faster and better. Sure people wil clamor about last night. A week from now, no one but soccer podcasts are discussing.

But when it comes to a sport like soccer where it’s the #1 sport of most countries, you’re not going to be able to compete with your best athletes never really playing soccer.

Define athlete here. LeBron is arguably one of the greatest athletes in the last 25 years in the US, but it would be hard to imagine him being anywhere close to a world class soccer player, he just too tall to have the coordination for it.

What mainstream US sport is Messi playing? Zlatan and Ronaldo maybe could have been WR's but they are outliers in terms of body type for world class soccer players.

Messi would be a fricking stud baseball player. Dude would have been electric in high school football and point guard too

Truth is it’s just so damn easy for a fantastic American athlete to never play any real soccer.

You’re better off just saving the effort. You’ll get carpal tunnel before he concedes a point.

Starting to think it isn’t a schtick and he is just a little simple, but then he does have some deep knowledge of the game.

Kinda reminds me of Stevie Nicol.

ETA: Because I can’t help myself, or listen to my own advice , I think a good case in point for this discussion is “What if we had more Odell Beckham Jr type athletes playing soccer from the time they were 5 years old and sticking with it as their main sport?

How many people in our starting XI, much less our bench, are we considering “athletes” on the same level as OBJ?

To get off this argument my Messi being born American brings up the biggest issue in my opinion with American soccer or tennis

The majority of American parents would have zero clue where to go even if they wanted to put their child in competitive soccer. Besides playing the local ants on a ball rec league the American parent is clueless where to even try and get their kid involved in soccer and their is zero process really helping them out

Now if they wanted baseball basketball or football they would have countless people to reach out to if they had a young stud athlete

Democratic Party tactics, baw! Blame others for what you do…

He shifts and moves the goalposts and tries to shape arguments to his opinions.

I never said I agree with him wholeheartedly, but he isn’t 100% wrong on his point. And you’re not 100% wrong on yours, aside from the fact you’re pretending he is arguing something completely different.
