Kind of annoying how yall have already forgotten how shitty Alvarado was
There was so much shitty all around... hard to focus on just one example of the shittyness.

I am not comparing Wondo to Jozy in this match or overall. I am only saying I do not think Wondo belongs on the USMNT.

I mean, we were poor, but we were also starring in the real life Orange is the New Black. Somebody could've really gotten injured out there. Two of their clear cut chances came on blatant fouls on Dempsey that were ignored.

This was Honduras's second loss this year. Their only other loss was 1-0 to Brazil.

They play dirty and force teams to break away from their own gameplan. It's annoying, and we should be able to handle it better. However, we got 3 points. It was weird to hear Lalas and Wynalda seem so okay with the game while Stu was trying to actually point out why we should definitely not be okay with this performance. Then Alexi tried to compare this team to the WWC team. Think he wants a "Title IX" for men's soccer too?

Everyone braces yourselves:
Props to Jurgen for the subs he made. He recognized early on that we needed to hustle that game out - and he brought on three underskilled, but crafty players to see it out. Jozy had stopped running, Chandler kept going to far upfield and Zardes kept leaving the wing open.
All three subs fixed those issues and saw the game out.

Yeah good call on Wondow, huge uplift for the team in grinding out the win

That logic is perfectly reasonable. However, it does not hold up under scrutiny here. As said above, AJ offers a much better "hustle" option than Wondo. Bedoya is going to cover a lot more ground than Zusi. The Evans sub is the only one that I actually think was the right call. I could see maybe Garza in at left while sliding Fab to the right, but I understand not wanting to throw off the CB to fullback connections by essentially changing both at once.

Jozey's lack of mobility was still working much better than a mobile Wondo. Granted I know crap about the national team as I'm more of a club fan, but I didn't see this as a substitution that worked.

Only if Dempsey or Bradley needed a sub.

It won't happen but I'd like to see Mix get the start at the top of the diamond with Bradley playing at the bottom of the diamond.
I think Mix brings some creativity in the box that Bradley doesn't have and I still think Bradley's real strength is starting the offense from the back.

I'd be curious to see Mix on the left in that situation. He would definitely put in the defensive work necessary. Obviously, we'd lose that breakaway pace going forward on the counter, but we could settle into some keep-away.

I haven't seen enough of AJ (club or country) to agree. I'd challenge that no one here has. Wondo was frequently in the right spot - even if he wasn't very effective and being able to be in the right spot is 90% of the job.
I think that this game needed "don't get caught with your pants down and see it out" and all three subs were that (and probably nothing more). Everybody has a role, right?
I'll have to give it a second watch - it was hard to tell in the stadium.

What ever happened to Aron Johansen?

We're assuming he's been the victim of a terrorist attack in this scenario?

No other team has a tougher first round match than Honduras.
They are a top 3 or 4 team in the region. We will get better as this tournament progresses. Baby steps, boys and girls.
