We got a REALLY good side of the bracket if we can get through Venezuela in the quarters.

If the USA U20s were to win the World Cup, does it put the rest of the globe on notice? This seems like it would be an early predictor of future success.

Posting from Thailand and haven't been able to watch any yet.

It should. But it's still not as big a deal as people may think. A lot of small nations have won youth world cups. Serbia most recently and I know Nigeria has won at least one.

Not really. A lot of the best U20 players aren't in the tournament. We kind of have a B team there ourselves.

Venezuela has been brutal. They have yet to give up a goal and they rampaged through a group that included Mexico and Germany. If somehow the US got past them, they could end up drawing the hosts, S. Korea.

Then again, beating New Zealand is anything but a gimme, especially with 3 starters out.

Past U20 World Cup winners:

2015: Serbia
2013: France
2011: Brazil
2009: Ghana

It's hit or miss.

France and South Korea ( I know they lost) are the best two teams in this tourney imo

I think the regional U21 championships are a better indicator

It's a better indicator for UEFA, but U21/23 competitions aren't a big deal or even a thing elsewhere.

actually hope Japan pulls it out. we would have a crazy height advantage over them on set pieces.

I haven't seen Venezuela play before and they legit have a midget playing for them. He makes the japs look tall.

Venezuela pulls it out in the 108 minute. our defense is better than Japan's. I can see a Pk shoot out if we play Venezuela.

Portugal stun the hosts with a easy 3-1 win.
