I’d be more gutted/angry about this dark shadow of a day, and probably will in a few. But today has a more important proud-endearment for me.

Today I dropped off my oldest and only baby girl (no pics) at Baylor. She had other tempting offers overseas (Univ. of Hamburg) and domestically (Westmont College and William & Mary), but only one university slapped the cash on the table and gave her a full ride.

I put my cape on, and spent three hours going to three different Targets, and 5 hours putting furniture together. But she’s happy, and apparently I’m “the best dad in the world”. So I got that going for me.

Nobody fumbles at the 1 yard line quite like Spurs. Super Cup, MGW, and Eze deals all within a couple weeks.

Not to worry, Levy will address the latest midfield signing failures by buying some 17-year-old and loaning them back to their club for a couple years. Our opponents will never see it coming.

The thing is nobody would have batted an eye if Spurs would have not gone in for MGW or Eze and just signed a number 10 that they identified as being a good fit. The issue is they want to be perceived like a big club, but just can’t back it up.

Missing out on both players in this way does more damage to the perception of the club and morale of the fans than if they didn’t go in for them at all. Everyone associated with the club is left feeling embarrassed when we should be riding high after our first trophy in 17 years.

The nail in the coffin is that all of this was avoidable. The MGW deal fell apart weeks ago. Fine, we missed out on our number 1 target, that happens, but the failure to follow up on anything until 2 weeks after the Maddison injury is just pure negligence. Everything about the Eze deal felt reactive rather than having identified him as the second option behind MGW and going straight in for him.

We are a big club, management just refuses to act like it. That is what is so frustrating, stop dicking around and get the job done. When Palace said after conference match, Levy should have said sign or we walk right now. That should have never been part of the deal.

Agreed, but it shouldn’t have even come to that from a timing standpoint. He had a release clause that we could have triggered the minute the MGW deal fell apart. We had a deal agreed for a J-League CB before preseason even started, but when it comes to showing any sort of ambition we have to wait until 2 weeks before the window closes when teams don’t have the ability to find replacements.

Who knows? I haven’t seen any credible links since the Eze deal collapsed.

It doesn’t really matter at this point. I can’t see anyone parting with a MGW/Eze level talent with less than 2 weeks left in the window.

Savinho still “injured” for City tomorrow. If it was a dead end, I believe he’d be there so maybe there’s still a chance?

Interesting we aren’t playing a back 5. I really thought we would. Putting a lot of pressure on the midfield.

Looks like the plan is to invite pressure and playing out of the back. Not seeing much hold up play, I know it’s early, but we aren’t pressing very hard.
