Match Week!
I was excited, and then I remembered that Southampton's game plan worked wonders against Conte the 2 times Spurs played them past season.
Their press was stifling in both matches.

I'm hoping our MF will be improved over last year and be able to break their press. New season optimism at its finest!

Richarlison and Skipp definitely out for week 1 with Bissouma, Doherty, and Perisic listed as probable.

Better than last year though. That team that started against city was pretty bad looking bad. Son masterclass.
As far as improvements. We legit improved at LWB, MF and depth on attack. Think we are largely the same at CB and RWB. Still only 1 injury away in attack from having no depth so would love another signing there and then just hoping and praying the RWB works out.

Starting XI same as last year, but that bench is the best I've seen in some time.

That lineup at the end of the year was pretty solid. The wb position is so baffling to me. Was hoping Royal would have been replaced but I think he’s the best we have there for now.

The wb position
With 5 subs this season, I think you'll see Doherty & Perisic be substituted in at some point today.

Does Hojbjerg look alot slimmer to anyone else?

We’ve responded ferociously. Love it. Back line seems a little shaky and our touch is a little off still but that first game rust imo.

Yeah I noticed that too he looks like he cut some weight. I didn’t recognize him for a second.
Great response to going down early. It’s really nice to have some quality options off the bench to run at their tired legs. Even better once richarlison’s suspension is over

Only tuned in for the 2nd half - we look dominant

Started slow but always in hand. Good win boys!!!

A quick thank you to Juventus for giving us the second best winger in the premier league (behind Son). Deki is a monster.

And more transfer news
LB but expect this to be like the Sarr transfer from last year where he’s immediately loaned back

Fabrizio Romano @FabrizioRomano Full agreement on personal terms between Destiny Udogie, his agents and Tottenham, five year contract. Deal expected to be completed next week with Udinese. ???? #THFC Paratici and Conte want Udogie as part of future project, so he could be loaned back to Udinese.

Furthermore, Roma will only sell Zaniolo for a fee of around €50 million outright or they could be open to loaning the player with an obligation to buy for the reported amount. ASRomaLive believe that Tottenham ‘have now accepted’ the Italian club’s condition and they will spend the next few days evaluating the situation and decide whether to submit a concrete offer for the midfielder.

Just watched some highlights and it’s great to see offense coming from players not named Kane and Son. I didn’t watch the whole match but Royal looked more confident than last season, hope that continues. Good match and start to the season!
