Midfielders:
Bentaleb was an utter mess: he was getting way to close to Dier, almost all of his completed passes were backwards, while most of his forward passes were either intercepted or played to a player with the opposition pressing. Very unlike the Bentaleb we all know and love, form should improve drastically.
Dier did what he was supposed to do: he is a cross between a DM and a 3rd CB and he plays it well. He was making quick, good decisions, rarely have the ball away, pressed very well, and shouted at others to get organized.
Chadli was good: he made good passes, but he got out of position a bit too much (even though his role is to shift some), he will improve in form.
Eriksen was also good: he did an incredible amount of running up and down the pitch, he has no problem going deep and taking a pass to try to push the men forward, he is becoming a leader, but he needs to become more vocal.
Dembele was great: he arguably pressed better than any other player on our team, the combination of Walker, Dier and him on the right actually looks REALLY good. He will improve on form of given the minutes to play.

Harry Kane played very good football, he dropped back to take passes as a forward outlet, he shifted well, made good passes, but some of his decisions were hasty and not calculated. He needs competition under him to push him.

Toby is really going to bring together our back line.

He was a fantastic signing. I have all of this new found confidence in our back line now. Our starters are exceptional and our backups are very good.
Unfortunately defense starts in the midfield. We have to try to get Bender or Kramer in my opinion. But, Levy gonna Levy so... Njié it is...

Yes. We still need a real DM. Bentaleb and Alli are awesome but small, and they like to attack. I want an enforcer back there.

Of course Stoke sign Shaqiri this week...
Something must be wrong with him though if these top clubs keep letting him go?

Swagger, I agree with what you're saying about needing a real ball winning enforcer DM. that being said, Bentaleb is not small by any means, he's built very impressively. Also, Alli is a bit lean now, but he's very tall and his frame will support noticeable muscle growth.

Yeah. Both can be big, but I'm not sure if they play big. Both get cute with the ball, which I don't mind at all from the central midfield. We just need a guy who can shut down the counter. That killed us last year.

Touché. Bentaleb has had his moments but I agree with what you're saying. Sven Bender would be so perfect. Fingers crossed

Looks like the Njié deal is happening for around €14 million (basically what we sold Paulinho for to Brazilian Chinese team).
This is one of those "have to trust the front office" dealings, personally I don't see what all the fuss is about. Hopefully I am dead wrong.

I know it's early, but I'm liking what I'm seeing from Dier in that role. He was a tackling machine Saturday. I think having him at DM and Toby at CB could make a huge difference for our defense this year. I'd like to see us pair Dier with a central mid that can push forward, hopefully Alli or Bentaleb, and go after a more dynamic wing.

As of right now it is a good, if not our best, option. However, a good midfield defense doesn't only mean winning the ball. It also means keeping possession in the midfield, which is something they were unable to do against United.
Bender and/or Kramer would solve at least half of this problem, as they are proven midfielders who are always looking for the most intelligent pass.

I just want to see the old Jan again. I think he has whatever Kaboul came down with.

Soldado to Villarreal is supposedly done. Lamela let it slip on twitter, then deleted the tweet right after.
If true, I wish Bobby nothing but the best and I hope he refinds his form soon. Cheers m8.

He posted a pic on Instagram wishing Soldado good luck at his new team. That's all he said there.

Yup. Soldado did tell fans at the airport that he was headed to Villarreal though.

More curious about the shirt Lamela is rocking.
