I assumed he came on bc he would play slightly more of a defensive role than Holtby would. I felt that was what the team was lacking yesterday, a defensive midfield presence. With how terrible our center backs are at controlling through balls I think we need someone like Sandro to break that stuff up. Dembele and Erickson cannot provide that and I am not sure that Holtby does either.

Bentaleb actually looked really good, especially for his Premier League debut. I didn't hate the substitution. Reward young guys in your system for working hard, and you will have a better team.

Yeah I understand completely why they brought a defensive guy on I just didn't expect it to be a guy with 0 PL experience. I thought capoue might come on

This is what I was getting at. He didn't play badly....just a "WTF" moment for me.
Anyone else feel the same as I did watching Defoe? What about Gylfi?

I think he brings very little to the field on most occasions. He has a very quick release on his shots and needs very little space. But that seems to only work against crappy teams.

I love when Gylfi is on the field but I see hints of the Ade syndrome where he gets frustrated and disappears

I agree with everything you posted. I don't want to see Defoe play again. I think gylfi can be great if he keeps getting chances he'll start making some noise. He's just been really inconsistent with his playing time so it was hard for him to get into a rhythm. He scored 2 goals and then gets benched so that has to be disappointing.

Capoue AND Holtby were training with the U21's today... Maybe Sherwood doesn't trust them/know them enough to put them on?
Lamela looks rough, but I say you keep putting him out there until he finds his groove.
