That kind of statement combined with panic added to legimate concern = defeatist. Mainly because it has no basis in fact and is only being said to make things look worse than they actually are.
Liverpool sit 3rd in the table.
Liverpool are only 3 pts out of 2nd in the table.
Liverpool's EPL schedule from now until the end of the 2017-18 season is more favorable than any of the Top 6 clubs.
All of this panic because we dropped a match to a Swansea team that is at least currently in decent form and then dropped a match to West Brom in the FA Cup.

Christian Pulisic £75
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic £90
Andrea Belotti £89 (release clause)
Leon Bailey £40-50
above would be my best guesses, though Belotti has a release clause

Yea sorry I submitted early accidentally. I know those prices aren’t exact, but that was more just to show how expensive things could be. Now more than ever, our scouting department is gonna have to prove their worth because we’re just not gonna splash that kind of cash

But he also said this, right before that.. "I'm not saying we won't make top 4 or go relatively deep into Europe. I think we will"
Anyway, BPG is old school and one of the few over the years whose optimism has prob been on par with mine... even in the dark days of Hodgson..
That said, IMO, the same as when the summer window closed... It's done now.. Our team is set until the summer, so lets get behind them and push on... we go again!

FYI - I get your frustration, because to some you would think we were fighting relegation and fielding a league one side... string together a few wins and all eyes will be back on the prize..

I feel like a lot hinges on Lallana and Henderson getting healthy and staying healthy. For me, that’s the biggest worry because obviously they’ve had their struggles with that.
With those two, our midfield becomes a lot deeper and they fit in great with how the team is supposed to tick. Plus that allows Ox to potentially come off the bench and give us depth at winger.
If Lallana comes back and finds form with Henderson and Can being the main two to anchor the midfield, I like our chances of finishing top 4

£417mm layout total... yeah, its got to be a healthy mix of Known talent/on the verge of breakout talent/young talent
GK HAS to be a known talent

I think if Bobby gets hurt for a long period... we are screwed.. Ings/Solanke would have to step up big time..
We should have recalled Origi, if we were gonna let go of Studge.. He may not be the future, but as of today, I have more faith in him than the other two.. but...

OK, I'll drop it for now.

We didn’t submit a bid for either. That’s my issue
But here's what you're missing, just because we didn't submit an official bid doesn't mean we didn't make contact or discuss with the club a transfer said players... You're acting like the club just sat on their hands and did literally nothing when our manager is saying otherwise.
Sorry, but unless you're some club higher up that just happens to post on an american soccer board then I'm inclined to take the word of the guys actually involved.

1. No, the window wasn't a travesty.
Fair enough. Its subjective.

2. Yes, you're being defeatist (on top of whiny).
Am I? I can't be concerned about our window now without being whiny?
That a pretty big generalization, but decent ad hominem.

3. No, you don't have a single clue what Klopp's budget is to buy players and when or whether he'll choose to spend that budget or not.
Neither do you.
quote:
Klopp isn't going to buy rando players just to make the fans feel better.
I don't want him to buy "rando" players to make me feel better. I want him to buy decent players so we don't lose to Swansea and West Brom.
quote:
He also isn't going to make desperation buys. That's now who Klopp is. That's not who he's has EVER been. And that's not who he is going to be in the future.
I didn't say anything about desperation buys. I'm talking about a keeper who has more saves than goals allowed (hint - Karius doesn't fall under the description). I'm talking about a decent squad player to be brought in when Firmino (God forbid) gets injured. As of now, we are one CF injury away from starting Ings (hasn't scored in over two years) or Solanke (hasn't ever scored a Prem goal) in a knock out fixture in European competition. That's startling.
quote:
He would rather take a player he KNOWS and "coach him up" rather than take some average-to-good rando who has no clue about his system and has never played for him, break him down 100% and totally rebuild him for his system, all for the honor of the ultimate result of NOT selecting him on Match Day. Does the name Steven Caulker ring a bell?
This isn't ground breaking. We all know this. Its his biggest weakness, and one that should be called out. It's unacceptable to leave a forward line without any viable backup in case of injury.
quote:
Pay closer attention.
To what? I agree with everything you said. I just think its poor transfer management.

I’m usually optimistic to a fault.
I’m just disappointed because with a few decent moves at the front and at GK we could’ve pushed DEEP into Europe and probably won the FA Cup.
Contrary to what’s being said, I don’t think we’re in danger of being relegated.

Will do man. It’s been too long, you need to come back and visit.

Okay, so what if Klopp has Targets A, B, C
Target A is at his boyhood club and doesn't want to leave, even though Klopp rates him highly so we don't put in an offer
Target B is willing to leave, but the club are not interested in even discussing a move in January so we don't put in an offer
Target C is expendable by his club, but doesn't want to uproot his family in the middle of a year (school for his kids, etc.) so despite the two clubs being willing to deal, he's not willing to listen to contract offers
So you have two options: Buy a GK not rated as high by the club and manager (aka a panic buy), or just don't spend money until the summer.
I think you're making sweeping generalizations about how transfers work and how easy it is to get a player into a club... This isn't FIFA

Our goalkeepers are literally (stats wise) the worst two goal keepers in the league. Even if the manager doesn’t rate a signing as a long term replacement, he can stop the bleeding. And he’s a GK, it won’t cost a fortune to get a decent one.

And I think you’re making sweeping generalizations about my argument by comparing it to FIFA. Other clubs buy stop gap players, this isn’t a crazy or novel concept. This isn’t me playing football manager asking us to sign a keeper who can boast a record of more saves than goals allowed.
That being said, I understand that under Klopp we wont do that. I get that. Doesn’t mean I have to like it.

Arsenal, United, Spurs, Everton didn’t have much of an issue strengthening their squad in this window

Our starting GK has a save percentage of 44% with 4 saves and 5 goals allowed.
Until this past week our second string GK had the second worst save percentage in the league at 57.4% (second only to our starter).
I don't think its unrealistic to expect to sign a stopgap until the summer.

I don't understand why Liverpool would have to go out and dump and waste money on a "stopgap" at GK when all Klopp would do is not play him.
Hell, I want to see Danny Ward given a shot. He had a solid season 2016-17 with Huddersfield, one of the keys that helped them to gain promotion to the Premiere League.
I just checked Squawka and Ward's Championship statistics at Huddersfield are comparable or better than Stoke's Butland while he was playing in the Championship. And Butland is considered an "up and comer" (though his stats so far with a horrible Stoke squad this season are ugly to say the least) and has been mentioned in rumors with Liverpool.
So, again, why spend money on a "stop gap" when you've got a "stop gap" with potential sitting on your bench who never gets to play?

That's kind of my point. When I say "we" should sign I assume it is Klopp making the decision on all transfers. Gone are the days of the transfer committee. Klopp needs to drop the stubbornness when it comes to his policy on stop gap players.

Me too. Couldn't be much worse than the two we have. I'd love for him to get a shot. Basically at this point, anybody but Migs / Karius.

I guess I should have been clearer in my earlier posts. I feel a club the caliber of LFC cannot be starting Migs / Karius in goal. That's really the crux of it. He has Danny Ward, so he must not rate him. Then again I guess he doesn't rate any potential and available signings either, so I take your point. Its the same thing either way, we desperately need a new GK from within the club or from somewhere else.
That is only one of the issues though. Just as big of a problem is having no viable backup to Firmino. If we progress past Porto and Bobby gets injured we are starting Danny Ings in a European quarter final against PSG. Don't get me wrong, I love Ings, but that is a startling prospect.
