what is the deal with this new snake logo? is it even new? i've never seen it until recently and i've followed the u.s. team pretty closely for a while. what does the snake have to do with the u.s. anyway? shouldn't it be like a bad-arse bald eagle or something? maybe an eagle that's wearing sunglasses and flying through the air and leaving a trail of fire behind him? i'd even throw in these two for consideration if i was in charge of choosing the logo.

Ben franklin had a cartoon back in the 1700's that had a snake witht he caption "Don't Tread on Me". It was hugely popular...and still is.

Ben Franklin's drew a cartoon that showed a slashed snake representing the divided colonies failing after the Declaration of 1760. It read "United we stand" Eventually the snake was put on a flag that said "Don't tread on me!"

As majestic as that is, the snake logo is pretty cool also.

Actually it said "JOIN OR DIE" which is pretty badass. The snake is probably from the "Don't tread on me" flag which is also badass.

I hope that he is referring to the Proclamation of 1760 which banned permanent settlement west of the Appalachians but who knows..

frick me. I edited it to 1760 (what I meant to type). It prevented colonists from moving past the Appalachians. Franklin drew the cartoon during the Albany Congress.

The historic snake logo, as you can see from that sig. and from Stewie Griffin's avatar is now used by the U.S. Outlaws (American Outlaws?) which is a younger more vibrant supporters' group than Sam's Army.

The Eagle in my sig pic should be it.

at least since 2006, you don't follow soccer that closely. and the shirt with the harley on it is lame(why try to brag about the most pupular u.s. motorcylce company, when they cannot make the best bikes in the world, i yes i own a harley)
quote:
Athletic apparel company Nike uses the image of a snake coiled around a soccer ball for an ongoing, patriotic "Don't Tread On Me" campaign in support of the United States men's national soccer team. The phrase has become a rallying cry for American soccer fans and the Gadsden flag can occasionally be seen at national team games. In 2006, the campaign was accompanied by a hip-hop song performed by team member Clint Dempsey entitled "Don't Tread". The Philadelphia Union Major League Soccer expansion team, set to play in 2010, incorporated the coiled snake into its logo that was unveiled in May, 2009. The only differences between the team's logo and the snake on the Gadsen flag is that the snake on the team's logo lacks the rattle on its tail, and that it is displayed on a blue and gold background in the likeness of the municipal flag of the city of Philadelphia.
