Oh, I'm not a huge fan of Johnson by any means...but he did play most of the season on the opposite side from his natural foot last year and until we sign Enrique (or whoever we end up with) the younger guys (robinson, kelly, etc.) don't have the experience to start over Johnson.
Skrtel is coming off an injury and will miss starts. Suarez was going to work his way back slowly (although it sounds more and more like KK wants him on the pitch yesterday, frick his fatigue come Jan). Lucas is sharing the mid with everyone else on the team. I agree Downing will appear most often in the starting XI. I could be wrong, but I think Dirk starts a ton of games...kinda forgot about Carra, he's always there and if he goes down, we've got frick all for experience in the back.

I may be in the minority here, but IF Stevie recovers from his injury, I believe he still has 2-3 very good years left in him...

I hope Stevie can continue for a few more years, but he's been real injury prone as of late. I think when healthy, he will be used less than in past seasons. I think the amount of games Rafa made him play has contributed to these injuries.
Also, I think we will start to see Carra phased out this year. He's a boss and one of my all time favorites but I think he can only go for do long.
As for who starts the most, my guess would be Skrtel. I know he's hurt, but he played every minute of league play last year. All in all, I think no Europe will benefit this teams fitness greatly.

Regarding Suarez... I say give him opening weekend off. If the league is postponed a week I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the field for Sunderland.
