Yeah I mean you could say that its just a friendly, but still disgraceful. I enjoyed watching aquilani play though, even though there is a lot of speculation. Dalgish needs to address the defense before the league kicks off.

Another frustrating preseason game.
Just some notes
- G. Johnson looked extremely rusty.
- Charlie Adam had a few good passes, but also a couple bad ones.
- Carra was lucky not to have been red carded for the shirt tug.
- In just the last 10 minutes Aquilani looked like the best player on the pitch. Had two crackers that the keeper was lucky to save. I dont see why we keep trying to ship Aquaman out.
- Agger was great on corners. He even came from the back and had a nice shot as well.
- Spearing, once again, did not have his best game.
-Downing looks like he is going to do well for us. Sadly, Kuyt did not look great and I think he will lose his spot for a Suarez/Downing midfield pairing.

Yep I agree with just about everything. Aquilani looked great, but we are in desperate need of ANYONE better than Johnson. I wanted to pull my hair out when he touched the ball. I'm afraid Spearing is gonna be lost in the shuffle. Especially if we keep Aqua and when Gerrard comes back.
Also, Henderson was okay, but I wasn't wowed by him. He will have a few years to come into his own, IMO. Hopefully Gerrard can mentor to him in those years as he matures.

Honestly, Im not too worried about Glenn Johnson. He is a quality defender. I may be wrong, but wasnt this his first preseason game? If so, he may have just been shaking the rust off. (He was better in the second half)
Ill be kind of glad if Spearing get lost in the shuffle. He definitely should not be near the starting 11. Dont get me wrong, I am thankful he played well in the few games he had to cover towards the end of last season, but we have much better options now in the middle of the park. Hopefully our other central mids are playing well enough/staying healthy to keep Spearing off the pitch.
This team is really missing Lucas. He was our rock in midfield last year. When he is back, I think he will continue breaking up the other teams play and start our attack from the back.

about 30 mins in on the DVR recording...
Wonder the rational of playing Downing on the left and Kuyt on the right...
I'll giver the back line a pass, since it was their first game time of preseason...PK was iffy...

He rarely looks good.

I don't think he doesn't want to play for Liverpool. This is his third coach while at Liverpool, he came while we were in CL, Rafa then left and he didn't fit into Hodgson's plans. He also had a very good season in Italy.

I will be very upset if Kuyt retains his starting role.

Absolutely.

Downing is left footed and Kuyt is right footed. I will be interested to see how Dalglish plays Suarez/Downing. Will he put Downing on the left and Suarez on the right so they can whip in crosses on their strong foot? Or will he play Suarez on the left and Downing on the right so they can cut into the box on their strong foot?

Sorry, I meant the opposite. Downing was on the right and Kuyt was on the left. Watching the 2nd half now and they now have swapped sides...I prefer this set up, in this formation. I'm sure we'll mix it up...

Towards the end of the year Johnson was terrible. Maybe he's just in a funk or something but I don't think he's adding anything to the squad when he's playing the way he has.

He's English. That's his contribution. Kelly will take his place.

The Telegraph is reporting a deal for Jose Enrique to Pool for 6M is close.
In other news will Newcastle have enough players too put a team on the field?

6M is more like it...frick off with that 15M price tag...
Although, I'd really like the Uruguayan LB...

6 million sounds about right. Any new faces would be welcome to give ole Johnson some competition with kelly.

Is this Kuyt's younger replacement if we get him? I wouldn't mind it at all
ETA: 14m doesn't sound bad. Hopefully he can match up in the EPL

I am gruntled
Would love for the Marin rumors to be true. He's a great player and i'd much rather him play than Henderson

Also, Cole to QPR looks like its gaining steam (albeit on loan), that would free up a good bit of wages, though, with Jova and him out...

He actually had kind of a meh season with Wolfsburg last season. He is really little, like smaller than Arshavin little. Bad name to mention in a Pool thread. Slinking away...
