I get people are attached to Giroud but he's never scored more than 16 goals in the EPL. Giroud was special as a super sub but wasn't good enough as a starting striker for us to win the league. People are acting like he was some kind of goal machine. Have we forgotten his 3 month goal drought in the middle of our title challenge in 15/16? He's a very good option to have at striker but he isn't going lead a title a team to a title as the 1st team striker. Fact is he's a good but not great starter although he's one of the best sub options out there.

I agree with that, but he was still an amazing player in the low block. Think of how many goals we scored because he was essentially an offensive pivot who could flick the ball with his back to goal and receive the ball on the half turn so many times. All he needed to do was to finish those easy chances and he would have been a 20 goal a season striker. That's all that was really needed.

I still love him though. I don't think we will ever find a target man as good. He's the best target man we've possibly ever had.

Debuchy to St Etienne, which reaffirms the "we need defenders" point

Yea I love the guy. Unbelievably loyal to the club. Always did his best. Can't ask for more. Also to his credit he improved every year.

As far as target men go he's one of the top oprions in the world. You can see it when he's with France. You need to surround Giroud with goal scorers to get the best out of him. That's why him and Greizmann are so good together. It's just managers don't use target men as much as they used to.

105 goals and 41 assists in 253 games.
Averaged just under 20 goals per season.
3 FA Cups
3 Community Shields
Only £10m

I don't know how anyone can hate the man, loved the club and gave us more than a big return on his investment. Going to miss him for sure, but it's what was best for his career. Thanks for the memories Oli

Watch him during the 2013 season when Ramsey was clicking on all cylinders. Some of his passes that season were sublime.

I think his first game was a good microcosm of the player Giroud was. Late in the game, Cazorla an unbelievable ball to match the super smart run by Giroud, who has a decent chance right in front of goal on his weaker foot. Here's the link at 4:50. LINK

Giroud misses and we finish fourth. Had he scored and we won the game we finish third, only two points behind second place Man City. If we accumulate all those chances those relatively easy chances he missed, he would have been a striker as valued as Auba.

Regardless he served a very good role here, and I'm glad we got his best years. We didn't use him the right way, but we did use him pretty well.

Yeah but that wasnt his fault wenger bought him and played him in over 100 games his first two seasons.

I absolutely agree with you, we needed another cf plus him. Doesnt mean he wasnt a very good player for The Arsenal.

But people expected him to be bergkamp or henry. That wasnt fair.

I don't think most people would try and convince you that Giroud is the ST that would have won us the league eventually. I'm a big fan of his and am disappointed to lose him but it stems more from the timing than anything else(also, frick Chelsea).

I remain very skeptical about our FWD depth and scoring potential in Europa League the rest of the way and still view that as our best route back to CL football next year.

Just not sold that all these new additions can gel in time to get us up to top 4 in the run in, especially considering they'll be playing with the same defense.

Beyond excited for the potential of this team to legit compete for titles in the next few years once the chemistry forms, just disappointed to see one of the few, real scoring options we had left this season be sacrificed.

But, frick it! That juice will be worth the squeeze 5 major trophies from now and we've still got NACHO to find the back of the old onion bag!

Shamelessly stolen from elsewhere, but looks like OG enjoyed his first Chelsea defeat today.

Really solid window, considering we only spent about 7 million in net.

Got great value for dead weight in Theo, Coq, Giroud.

Got Mkhitaryan for free and used a bunch of profit from the summer and January to buy a prolific striker.

I'm concerned about Laca, who is quality when he has space but doesn't seem to have the pace to create it that I expected. I'm hoping Auba can be more lethal than him and give us two good options up top.

Thrilled Ozil signed. He's been quality for the last couple of months after a middling start. Sensational of late and worth every penny. Even if we keep playing like shite, he's worth watching matches alone.

New transfer crew (Fahmy, Mislentat, Sanlehi starts this month) did work.

I'm down with this lineup.

Aubameyang-Lacazette
Ozil-Any two midfielders not named Xhaka-Mkhitaryan
Monreal-Mustafi-Koscielny-Bellerin
Cech

I like

GK - Cech
RB - Hector
CB - Mustafi
CB - Kos
LB - Nacho
CM - Elneny
RCM - Ramsey
LCM - Jack
RW/LW - Ozil
LW/RW - Micky
ST - Auba

Lacazette looks physically tired. He needs a break. Maybe Laca gets a shot on one of the wings. Xhaka needs to be benched and made to earn his spot back.

Curious as to what formation Wenger uses with this lineup.

My guess though is that Wenger plays Iwobi and sits one of the forwards, because he's Wenger.
would you look at that.

Yep. Someone will always find their way into Wenger’s doghouse. Whether it’s Sanchez-Laca or Laca-Auba, etc., rest assured, Wenger is mentally lazy and can’t—or won’t—devise a system to put his strongest players together on the pitch. There will always be an odd man out and world-class players being sold to our top rivals as long as Arsene continues to hang on.

I hope recent changes in the front office and some personnel authority being snatched from AW are indeed signs that Wenger is out after this season.

I have a feeling if the Auba signing were left to AW’s final word, he’d have used the CP win as proof that “we’re fine.”
