It'll be interesting to see how the English choose to remember Southgate. Far and away the most successful Euro coach in the history of the 3 lions and in his defense, his side was defeated by better Spanish and Italian sides in both Finals. Definitely overachieved making the semis in the 2018 WC but lost in the Quarters in Qatar to a French side that was again, better than his English squad on paper and favored in the match.

ESPN crawler reads “steps away”.
BBC crawler reads “quits”.

I’ve been seeing English friends on Twitter posting his song lyrics.
They seem to be appreciative. The English fans in general will probably be different.

I really hope we don’t hire him

I think this is up for debate. They were at home in 21 and Italy was nothing special. England was young though. This year I think it could easily be argued they were more talented than Spain. They had Alvaro Morata leading the line and Marc Cucurella in the starting lineup for goodness sake.

Italy is definitely debatable but they were playing lights out that entire tournament. Especially on defense. Many forget that England was up 2-1 after both teams had taken 2 spot kicks at Wembley. The next 3 England players stepped up and missed. Again, that's not really on Southgate.

Unless you account for the fact he put two of those guys on like a minute before just for that purpose, which I absolutely hate.
