Isn't Kaka friends with the Orlando ownership? I know he's now older than dirt but hey for a new club it wouldn't be a bad move.

True, but we weren't talking about injury history.

Xavi will be good until he's 40.
I agree. He is basically a much, much better version of a guy I have watched for years, Alex de Souza. Guys with mediocre builds who are some damn smart and now how to maximize every bit of their talent. And that includes playing in a way to prevent serious injury. Alex has gone 12 years without an injury. Xavi has played 15 years with one serious injury. That's incredible, really.
And Alex had the best season of his life at 34. At 36, he is back in Brazil and his numbers are identical to what he was doing at 23.
Xavi is the perfect type of old vet to bring in, not just because of his name and previous accomplishments, but because he will not have an immediate drop-off.
To be honest, most of the big names besides Marquez did a solid job in MLS.
Di Viao, Henry, Beckham, Angel, Keane, Cahill, etc.
Biggest busts were Mista, Marquez, and Nery Castillo.

Denilson was pretty awful

His contract was surprisingly small from what I remember.
Unforuntately, the Wikipedia article has been edited to not include the salaries of the former DPs. I have no idea why. It was a great resource.

How many decent 22 year old Colombians or argentines could you get for one over the hill 34 year old spaniard? That sucks.
This a retarded opinion. What does decent mean? And Xavi isn't over the hill. He can run the midfield for a while. He can't keep up with the pace of La Liga going forward, but he'll be the best technician to grace MLS in its history.
It's about marketing the game and moving it forward. What if Xavi struggles to control the midfield like we expect him to? Wouldn't that be a testament to the quality of the league? The better the players are in the league, the better it is for young Americans who play with and against players like Xavi. This is a good move if it goes ahead.

Also if Xavi decides to become a coach, having an American connection will be superb. If we can get someone to teach the La Masia style in America, that would be just amazing.

BTW, Hendo´s comment is a Pep Guardiola quote.

quote:Exactly. Primarily because stud Colombian and Argentine 22 year olds are going to want to play in Spain or Italy.
This a retarded opinion.

I haven't read that quote but it's not surprising. It's kind of a common sense assumption.

You must know all of this so certainly because you live in Europe.

You guys are seriously underestimating Xavi's talent and star power, even at this age.
Disagree. Xavi doesn't resonate at all with any mainstream sports fans and his style of play isn't exciting.

Like Beckham, right?
IF he goes to the US, there will be tremendous fanfare and hoopla, especially since it will be NY, where he´s going to.
It will be sport specific, but I can guarantee you, the entire Eastern seaboard will be inundated, and both hipsters and soccer fans across the nation will be ecstatic.
However, let´s face it, probably one tenth of the fanfare of a Terry or Lampard signing. These guys are world demigods for both footballing fans and ´mainstream sports fans´ alike, of course. Bus parking is a constant phenomenon, of which all avid and rabid US marketers are well aware, and would break the bridle to get ahold of.
