I like the Bayern thread because we can post shite that isn't quite important enough for a new thread and we can just go back and check it every now and then.

Exactly. I just can't understand why the season-long threads are a bad idea. I think they actually keep the board cleaner and easier to navigate.

I like to occasionally read updates on the Bayern thread for example and it "litters" the board much less than a new post for every topic regarding Bayern. Same for clubs like Roma, Fulham, Aston Villa etc that have a few people here who follow. The season long threads get bumped on occasion but they fall of the first page quickly as well.

Just look through the first 5 pages or so at the at the thread titles that aren't "season long threads" . . . are there really so many fascinating topics that have been bumped?

They aren't and they do. It's a constant battle with people on here. Some want them, some don't. There is no reason to have one created for every topic/club though. For example:

Newcastle Season Long Thread - Been up over a month with 6 posts. Not necessary.

2012-2013 Season Long Americans Abroad Thread - A topic everyone on the board wants to discuss. New threads are much better than having it all posted in a jumbled mess that is hard to keep up with.

Rangers Season Long Thread - Seriously?

Serie A Season Long Thread- Come on now

Among plenty others that we have managed to get whacked.

The gifs on the board used to be awesome. But now you literally have to wade through them to find any content.

I agree but I guess just think the unnecessary ones, like Serie A, tend disappear on their own.

Agree that there's no need for an Americans Abroad stickied thread. Specific posts about the player/instance are better.

Alos, completely agree that boards are better when people discuss things and every thread isn't a collage of banal gifs like the unreadable SEC rant. However, that may come less from policing and more from good posters simply doing what they can to stimulate real conversation--even on subjects that aren't in their primary area of interest-- and thereby attract/maintain more intelligent posters.

Many (not me) don't think smaller season long threads help de-clutter the board. They would rather there be new topics started regularly instead. Their argument is that it helps stimulate interest and participation without having to check the season long threads and then look through them for good information.

Yep but recently the gifs seem to have scared away some of the veteran posters. Like I said, a well placed gif is hard to beat in terms of laughter/appropriateness. But they lose their intrinsic value when posted in response to every single thing

But, for example, the Americans abroad thread is kind of dumb, as 99% (I see you, GMorgan) of the people viewing the board are interested in that.

A lot of people requested it. Also, it's nice to have a place to go post/see the latest Jozy golazo without having to start a new thread every time.

ETA: Also, it keeps the board a bit tidier. Yes, I know I'm going against the opinion of several posters here, but that said there was a lot of support behind the idea. I understand the counter argument though.

it's sad that this thread even has to exist. the guy saying that "chelsea sucks lolz" when they are down 2-1 to reading is not trolling. everyone should understand that, but they dont. and that starts 5 pages of figs bitching at each other. so annoying.

I think a lot of jokes between people and some stuff gets lost between people because the "FIFA crew" knows each other better than the other posters. Other posters takes these jokes and believe that it is trolling n etc.

Also, I don't understand the whole soccer hipster theme. who gives a frick.
