I don't know the specifics behind it, but I do recall them trying to get into UEFA a few years back and UEFA laughing in their faces before they denied them.

The guys on the Guardian pod made that sound like UEFA is effectively closed for business, and I imagine a lot has to do with having no real options other than these nations within states (and there is no way UEFA steps into the shitstorm of Catalonia/Basque requests)

Currently they aren't, but the whole point of them applying to be in CONCACAF is so they can get approved by FIFA.
Greenland is an overseas territory of Denmark so the chances of them getting FIFA membership is pretty much nonexistent until they become independent. This will just allow them to play in CONCACAF competitions like French Guyana and Martinique, but not in World Cup qualification.

Greenland is not part of FIFA, soccer’s global governing body. As such, it is not eligible to compete in the World Cup. The KAK is forbidden from joining their parent country’s confederation, Europe’s UEFA, due to a statute baring associations from non-independent regions (The Danish-controlled Faroe Islands got grandfathered in, having joined UEFA in 1990 before that statute was put in place).
Greenland’s relation to Denmark means its chances of joining FIFA are slim to none. Yet Greenland is geographically part of North America, with Nuuk being closer to Canada than to their closest European neighbors, Iceland.

There are a bunch of British and US territories in CONCACAF that are FIFA sanctioned and compete in World Cup qualifying.
I'm just saying that Greenland is on record saying that they are trying to get into a confederation so they can get FIFA sanctioning.

That roster includes a 41 year old defender who plays for a semi-pro team in Greenland.
*taking 23 and Me test to see if I have any Greenland in me

think Iceland has about 10x the population.
Iceland is 382k, about the size of Orleans Parish…
Greenland is 56k, but with a more European pedigree and that home field advantage, I’d expect them to wreck some of the small disorganized Caribbean islands and stand half a chance of being drawn in a group with a big boy…
